A new hypothesis that MS might have a sexual tranmission
factor has come under fire. A British researcher says the
person contacting MS probably has a genetic component and there
could be multiple viruses at work.
Isreal
Isreali tanks are back at Yassar Arafats compound after two suicide bombings in the
past two days. Nine Isrealis are dead, over 50 are wounded. One
Palestinian is dead and two slightly injured at Arafats
headquarters.
UPDATE: The BBC and Debka are reporting Israeli troops have
also entered the Gaza strip, but I haven’t found information
anywhere else yet.
Saint’s Blood
Science has no explanation
why a vial of powered blood said to be Saint Genneros turns to
liquid twice a year.
Thousands of faithful crammed into Naples cathedral
to see the blood of the fourth century Saint Gennaro turn from
powder to liquid, which they see as a good omen for the city
and the world. The miracle has been recorded almost without
fail for the past 600 years — on September 19, the saint’s
feast day, and on the first Saturday in May. When the blood has
remained dry, tragedies have followed.
Cyber-Security
The US government has released it’s cyber-
security plan with the usual reactions of going-to-far and
not-far-enough. The plan is expected to receive approval from
the White House by the end of the year.
Russia
Even Russian officials are worried about the shape of their aging nuclear
subs and ships and the potential for theft and environmental
damage. This comes the same week a Ukranian government member
says 200
nuclear weapons are missing
Oh well, as long as you are wearing shoes
Seven men who marched naked in
Toronto’s Gay Pride Parade have been cleared of “being nude in
a public place without a lawful excuse” or public nudity
charges because they were wearing shoes.
Concordia University
Montreal’s Concordia University which had a riot over Benjamin
Netanyahu’s appearance has extend
ed a ban on rallies speeches and exhibits about the Middle
East. Yep. That will really fix things up on campus and calm
things down.
Canucks may be allowed on TV’s Survivor.
Survivor series creator and producer Mark Burnett wants to have Canadian participation in the popular
show.
A CBS spokesman said there could be legal issuesinvolved in allowing non-American citizens on the show, but
Burnett vowed to pursue the matter anyway.
“Americans and Canadians have the same kind of accent, a
bit, apart from you keep saying ‘eh’ all the time,” said
Burnett.
“I think it’s a bona fide question, and I’m kind of embarrassed
actually that we haven’t attempted it before, because we have
such a great viewing audience in Canada and I’ve worked there
so much.
My fellow country men….if you do get an audition try not to
say ”eh,” eh?. Make the cut and go kick some butt.
James Lileks
Ranting and Roaring has a great idea. Write
The National Post and suggest they hire James Lileks. You can
contact The National Post her
e. Sounds like a plan to me. If The National Post won’t
take him, how about The Report
News Magazine Online?
Blog Roll Grief
Nick Denton has some thoughts on blog roll
etiquette. His number one rule….never ask for a link. Well,
to each his own. If Martin
Roth hadn’t reached out blogs4God
probably wouldn’t exist. I wouldn’t be blogging. Rule number
two….never say thank you. I have no problem with a decent
thank you, I have a problem with fawning. There is a
difference.
I do agree about not giving a blogger grief over their blog
roll. It is their blog and their personal preferences, not
yours. Giving a blogger grief over the links on the side bar
doesn’t win brownie points or posted links. Write well. Use
your log wisely.
The Information Age
Lovely take down of Bill Quick’s hypothesis that the
information age will change everything we thought we knew about
being human over at Minute Particulars.
Why feed the Trolls?
Idea Joy and I have
exchanged a few emails about a ‘christian’ blog that used less
than stellar language and thoughtlessly denegrated a group of
non-Americans. I suggested he write a post on feeding the
trolls, because of that post and the comments under the post on
the said blog in question. Idea Joy has been out on the net a
long time, and knows his way around. I think he has something
to say about this.
Why not head over to Idea Joy and encourge him to do a post?
And while there, say thanks for Who Links
Who. I use it every day. It’s a great resource.
Cheap Grace
Lilac Rose Blog admits freely that one of her
heroes is Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Mine too. He came up in
conversation the other day with a friend. He’d never heard of
him. I tumbled all over myself explaining why he was one of my
heroes. I suspect my friend was glad to escape, but I’ve been
thinking it’s time I sat down and read again. Lilac Rose looks
at cheap grace.
