Popped over on my daily rounds to looking back…..looking forward. I read the usual tech woes. Oh wait. No. I didn’t. They weren’t the usual tech woes most of us carry on about at all. Rev. Richard Bott had a wee bit of trouble putting up an mp3. file. But not just any mp3 file.

It’s a song he wrote. It’s up. It’s well worth a listen. The Rev writes songs. He sings. And very well I might add. Thanks for struggling through that upload, Richard. Any more where that came from? Bravo.

Advent
Another Reverend Richard, a Reverend in Wales, posts a moving piece on Advent at connexions.net. He leads off with a Terminator moment and doesn’t break stride.

World Aids Day
Cold hard random facts.

The UN estimates 42 million people have AIDS or are infected with HIV, the virus that causes it.

An estimated one million Chinese are infected.

Some areas of Africa have an infection rate of 35 per cent in the adult population.

About 50,000 Canadians are infected, and 4,200 new cases appear every year, according to Health Canada.

Part of the blog burst today is sharing any personal stories. Has AIDS touched my life in a significant way? Yes. It’s a very horrible way to die.

Voter Turnout
Every once in awhile statistics can be interesting. Out of 172 countries, Canada falls about where I expected it to in voter turnout. (stats since 1945). What surprised me was US voter turnout, as well as how high it is in Australia and New Zealand.
The US turnout can’t be that low, can it?

That’s better. Now I don’t have to read between the lines or whatever to work out what you are saying. Am using the latest IE but have been considering switching to another browser altogether or even some version of Linux instead of XP Pro. Will leave that to my techie sons.

Yes, here in Asutralia we have compulsory voting at federal, state and municipal levels and fines for failing to vote.

Interesting! It’s not compulsory at all in New Zealand.

    Jan. Really?
    You are required to vote?
    What is the fine?
How do they make you pay?
What is the reasoning behind the law?
If you blog about this, I’d like to follow it. Blog on!

Fine is (Aust) $200. Letter followed by a summons and court appearance if letter is disregarded.
