The actual title is The 3rd Annual 20 Worst People, Places, And Things On The Internet For 2002 from John Hawkins of Right Wing News.
#20 is celebrity web sites:
I’m so tired of celebrity websites. In fact, I’ve yet to ever see a really good one. They tend to be boring and sparsely updated and no one would ever even look at these pages if their owners weren’t famous. Oh look, the celebrity likes to play video games, ooh they went to a convention, whoop-di-doo! They’re just like us — except they believe the tedious details of their lives are worth putting up on a website for the amusement of the “little people.”
and the number one worst thing on the web is of course, spam….
What list of annoyances on the net would be complete without spam? How bad is it? I work for an internet wholesaler and we literally block 85% of the email going to some of our client ISPs as spam — and that’s just what we catch.
It was # 1 in the 2001 worst too. Blogger made the list this year.
Most Boring Celebrities List
Ozzie Osborne and Anna Nicole Smith top a list of this years most boring celebrities.
Maxim
Maxim has a list of ten things that are younger than Strom Thurmond. Tea bags and human flight are on the list.
A Canadian Spam Scam?
Since spam is the top of the list of things we hate about the internet, The Toque couldn’t resist a Canadian parody of the Nigerian email. So, is this a plea from a Canadian diplomat or a Canadian email scam?
This letter may come to you as a surprise, due to the fact that we have not ever met before, eh, not even once. This message may sound strange, but it’s real. All I ask is that you read this letter, out loud if you want, or by moving your lips, silently mouthing the words the way that some people do–which is funny.
Presently there is over $500 (CDN$) in beer empties stashed away in a secret location known only to me and one other member of my family. Oh, and this one neighbourhood kid, who’s always hanging around. I think his parents like to nap in the afternoon.
Ar Arr Arrr
The worst spammer known out there in cyberland got targeted by the anti-spammers like the /. gang. And, gee, Alan Ralsky does not like the results one bit. So, planning a change in attitude about bulk email, buddy?
