Internet Attack
I wondered why the internet was acting up yesterday. Here is why…the worm called the SQL Slammer.

Experts called it the most damaging attack on the Internet in 18 months as networks across Asia, Europe and the Americas were effectively shut down, Reuters reported.

Columnist Dave Barry has a blog, courtesy of Ken Layne. I can identify with this:

I will now spend days and days trying to figure out how this works, as opposed to doing anything productive.

Blogs
The Belleville Ontario Intellegencer has a positive editorial on blogs and how they can affect politics.

Are you one of the many whose face goes blank at the mention of blogging? Do you assume it’s a word culled from the latest Harry Potter novel?

If so, you’re not alone. Blogging is the latest Internet trend to make waves, and with good reason.

Politically, blogs are a step forward for democracy. Check out Liberal MP Paul Martin’s blog on his campaign website, paulmartintimes.ca. Through his blog, Martin — and any other with-it politician — has a direct link to his constituents and potential voters. The media filter which all politicians bemoan is eliminated. Martin can say exactly what he wants, how he wants, no questions asked.

NDP
The federal NDP held their leadership race this weekend. Damian Penny, Jordon Cooper and Colby Cosh had more interesting things to say than the papers. Ranting and Roaring has information on the DOS attack in the internet voting during the election.

Country Pride
While Australia celebrated Australia Day calmly (no permalink, Sunday, January 26th) and here, India was on high alert for it’s 54th Republic Day.

The Catholic Blog Reviewer?
relapsed catholic is not too impressed with this bloggers review of Nihil Obstat who lurks around the comments sections of St. Blogs. This new blog is called The Catholic Blog Reviewer. Cut her some slack there Shaidle, she is obviously totally new at this….and won’t be so perky once NO takes her apart.

Well, no: people who are ‘obviously new at this sort of thing’ actually aren’t entitled to their opinions about blogs that have been around longer. Especially when they admit to having no critical criteria whatsoever. What if I had set up my own top 10 after being online one whole week? Asking someone whose favourite book is In Defence of Elitism to cut some slack is askin’ a whole lot. Some folks should stick to their knittin…

After ‘perky’ and ’sticking to the knittin’ that might end a week blogging stint!
