Garry Kasparov has played supercomputer Deep Junior to a draw in their second of six matches in New York. He will walk out of this with 5 hundred thousand dollars and another 2 hundred thousand if he actually wins.

How Servers work
Have you wondered how the information you send and receive on your computer gets to where it’s going? There are 13 root servers in the world and experts 90% of the information they process is unnessarcy, which is why the net is vulnerable to attack.

Hi Lisa….and anyone else on a Mac! I have no idea why the text is bleeding over into the sidebar and have contacted my tech. Anyone else on a Mac having this problem?

Cambodia
Alleged remarks by a Thailand actress have sparked nationalist violence in Cambodia. Protesters have stormed the Thai embassy and the Cambodian PM has given them one hour as I write this to clear out.

“If they cannot restore order within one hour and the situation does not return to normal, I will send in our commando units to help,” Thaksin said.

The unlikely incident flared after about 100 demonstrators stormed the embassy compound in the Cambodian capital and set fire to buildings and a truck.

The protestors were among about 1,000 people who had gathered outside the embassy before police fired shots into the air to disperse them.

USA
Here are the key points of President Bush’s State of the Union speech given last night. Colby Cosh analyses the Bush delivery.

Going Postal
A US Postal Service female supervisor was forced to strip naked and walk in front of other employees by a collegue who was arrested OJ style by police.
This is the lamest PC statement I’ve heard in awhile.

“We are very concerned about the victim,” Sullivan said. “She was not physically harmed, but emotionally she had a very rough day, the first of some rough days.”

Wow. Ian’s Messy Desk has a very cool new design. Wow. (I don’t think Ian has a messy desk….with a clean layout and content like that, I see a very orderly mind!)

John Campea has been asking some tough social/church questions lately. Rather than link up to one post and discussion I’ll just give you the link.

I haven’t bought a CD in over a year. Via the I took the Red Pill I got linked up to the Benediction from The Prayer Cycle that features Jonathan Elias, Alanis Morissette, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Linda Ronstadt, and the American Boychoir. The brandy sniffer gets emptied now, I’m calling a friend, and we are going to hit every store in this town.

Mac designed sites will do that sometimes on my PC. I find some MT templates do it lots. Maybe this is kind of a Seinfeld “even-steven” type of thing. Your blog is keeping the world in balance!

Hmm… WindowsXP, huh? I’m probably more like Windows 98 or 95. I’ll go check and let you know.

There. After several attempts, I went from being Amiga OS, HP-UX, GNU-HURD, to PalmOS. So I finally cheated and became Win98 anyway.

It’s me!! I’m the one having a problem with the site. I use Safari (generally quite good, but a bit buggy) on OS 10.2. I can’t see the entire left third of the blog currently. I’ve reported the bug to Apple via the extremely cool bug reporter: it’s a little ant-like icon on the brower bar. Hope it’s fixed soon.

    Cheers -
