These two tests have been developed by Simon Baron-Cohen, director of the Autism Research Centre at the University of Cambridge.
The theory is simple. Baron-Cohen believes the female brain is essentially hard-wired for empathy, and the male brain is hard-wired to analyze and explore a system.
There are two tests. The Empathy Quotient and the Systemizing Quotient.
The article explaining things is here.
A key feature of this theory is that your sex cannot tell you which type of brain you have. Not all men have the male brain, and not all women have the female brain. The central claim of this new theory is only that on average, more males than females have a brain of type S, and more females than males have a brain of type E.
In the interests of fair disclosure, I scored average in each section.
Each test has 60 questions. If nothing else it may help one understand why it can be so difficult to communicate with some people.

Uncontrolled Re-Entry
Italy has alerted 39 countries that one of it’s satellites is re-entering the atmosphere.
The 3,100-pound satellite was expected to fall to earth between 5:10 p.m. GMT on April 29 and 2 p.m. GMT on April 30 somewhere in a band straddling the equator that would include Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Italian Space Agency said it was keeping all 39 countries up to date on the uncontrolled re-entry of the BeppoSAX satellite, but there was a higher probability it would fall into one of the oceans than on land.
The satellite should explode into about 140 pieces, with only 700 kg expected to remain solid and potentially posing a threat, the agency said.
Traffic is down
I was talking to an Australian blogger the other day who asked if I’d noticed blog traffic was down. Yep. I’ve noticed it usually is over holidays, and it is low on weekends, but it is lower than normal here.
I think the explanation is simple, and I can speak with confidence for Canucks.
It’s spring.
It’s not seasonal, but it is definitely spring, in spite of 20 cm of snow in Calgary, and some in Edmonton.
Remember all that complaining we did about the brutal Canadian weather this winter?
We’re doing something to make up for it, and that’s heading out doors and soaking up every bit of sunshine.
So, if you wonder where all Canucks are, there you go.
