The issue of domestic violence is a difficult one Bene and one in which I have considerable expertise (as a counsellor not a perpetrator :-))

If we look at it simplisticly, in terms of physical damage, which seems to be the approach of this study, then women are far greater at risk since they are, usually, less big and less strong than their male partner. Thus in a physical altercation they usually come off worst. Women might hit just as often, even initiate, but they do far less damage.

The real issue is power and fear, that is one partner exerting power over the other. In this area the statistics are far less clear, partly because male victims are far less likely to report than women and also the radical feminist movement have had a lot of political clout in this area and that further clouds the picture.

Still it will take a bit to convince me that men are experiencing the same level of victimisation that women are. There is a large number of very violent, vary scary men out there. (more than once I have feared for my safety in a major way).

Domestic violence is not really about being hit. It is about living your life in terror and being totally dominated by another human being.

Bene, you must've accidentally linked to the post below the one you're actually referring to. It's http://www.ireneq.com/mt-archives/000278.php not 000277.php! :D

Would you believe that half the time I still don't know what on earth I'm doing at the job? I meet people I'm supposed to interview with no idea what I should ask them. Eek!

Thanks for the link, Bene! Now I guess I really have to write some good stuff =) And, how on earth did you find out I had re-launched? I was going to send an email to all on my blogroll as soon as my first real post was up...what a surprise to see you mentioning it already! Oh, and just for the record..it's "Simple Green"...not "Greens". Again thanks, and God bless. Blog on, indeed!
