On Wednesday I posted on the arrest of an 82 year old man.
His name was Kurt Frenkel and he had a large connection of child pornography dating back to the 1960′s, one of the largest ever seized in Canada.
He died in custody this week, apparently of natural causes, shortly after a court appearance.
I wonder how his victims are doing. I wonder how many hundreds there are.
I wonder how many of them are dead, and not from natural causes.
It takes great strength of mind to see this person as a frail old man worthy of our sympathy when he has done so many terrible things.
Like Uday and Qusay Hussien, it is easy for us to demonize this human being, to turn him into something less than human in our mind. He was, however, not a monster but a frail old man who died alone in a prison cell. We can spare him some compassion without deminishing the horribleness of many of his acts.
