It’s a big event for the over 350 thousand people that are gathered in Downsview. Thousands more are heading in for the evening portion of the Stones concert. Organizers expect 450 thousand fans tonight.
It’s probably a major headache for Downsview residents.
The Rolling Stone concert sounds like it has as many politicans there as rock stars. So, with several hours left, how is this benefit playing out in the rest of the world?
If you are a fan of The Stones, AC/DC, Rush, The Guess Who, Justin Timberlake, Blue Rodeo, The Tea Party, Sam Roberts, The Flaming Lips, Kathleen Edwards, The Isley Brothers, Sass Jordan, La Chicane and Jim Belushi-Dan Aykroyd and Have Love Will Travel Revue, and possibly a few surprise acts, you can get coverage here.
UPDATE: I admit I’m not a big rock and roll fan (when did most of these guys get so old?) but there is something about the logistics of this concert that facinates me. At this hour there have only been nine injuries and one arrest. The big test will come when the show is over at midnight EST.
The Pope drew 800 thousand last year.
1300 plainclothes police, 1500 security guards, transport trucks filled with water bottles, the CBC national TV coverage, and the internet stream intrigues me.
Viewers from across the United States are watching the Webcast, with high usage from Virginia, California, Texas, New York and New Jersey.
Web surfers are also logging on in Australia, China, Brazil, Guatamala, Egypt, Spain, the UK and Germany.
On a normal day, the site will stream 60 megabits per second. During the concert, it is streaming 4,000 megabits per second, Galipeau said. “It’s a record for us.”
I like the switching and sound mistakes made in a live concert. It’s not sterile.
UPDATE: 176 countries have logged on the the webstream. 1000 hits a second.
Final Update: There was one arrest, minor injuries, and the concert goers emptied the park with no problems. There were 40 deaths from SARS in Toronto, and several people are still in hospital in critical condition after contracting the illness.

Love the penguins, can’t stand the Stones.
How can Toronto be SARS free? It’s an epidemic remember… it’s going to devastate the world… we’re all going to die…
