Do you ever wake up in the middle of the night, restless, unsure why you are up?
When that happens I ask God if there is anything He wants to bring to my attention. I believe in prayer and I believe that sometimes He is alerting me that someone one needs assistance. Sometimes it is just insomonia, but more often than not, someone is in need.
Tonight it was a friend.
Two emails were waiting for me.
Their family has been rapidly evacuated from their community because of an out of control fire in British Columbia. They had little warning….enough time to throw some belongs in their vehicles and get out.
Evacuation orders in the middle of the night are profounding frightening and disorienting. When fire jumps a river 15 kilometers from your home, you grab what you can and run.
They are now in a community about 20 kilometers away. They are frightened and unsettled, but safe.
At times like this, you realize what is valuable - lives and memories.
It’s the unknowns. How long will they be in an evacuation shelter?
Will anything be left to come ‘home’ to?
Forest fires in British Columbia have forced thousands from their homes this summer, and property losses have been staggering. It has been the worst fire season in 50 years. There have been 2,044 BC fires in 2003.
Let us pray.
Published 5 years agoFather, hear our cry. Please, Lord, keep the residents and their pets safe from the dangers of the fire. Be merciful and soothing to all that are feeling scared
and vulnerable. Help those people who need to evacuate to keep a clear
head and clear priorities. Be with all the people in this province who
have been so dreadfully impacted by the devastation of these fires.
Please keep the fire fighters and all those involved with these fires
safe and healthy. Amen.

Thanks for the prayers. Just heard from my dad again and the fire is apparently getting really close (maybe as close as 3-5 km). Please pray that the wind does not change because if it does, the fire may come sweeping over the hill and down towards the houses.
My parents are safe, which is all that matters.
I just hope and pray to god for this to end, because i can’t come home to my family until it does. Im stuck in Ontario until it ends, and im scared for my parents and friends because it is getting really close to where I live. I just want it to end.
Thank You,
Sarah Olson (age 14)
I know Sarah, I’ve been in a few forest fires and they are very very scary.
I know my readers will pray for your family and friends and I’m sorry you can’t be with them right now.
living in Fort Nelson B.C. I know the fear of that one time that the fire just comes for you, I bless the bravery of those firefighters that risked their lives for people and their homes.Currently we have a fire thats quite close to our town, time to hold our breath and pray that the wind shifts.
Hey Sasha:
Yeah.
People that fight fire amaze me.
Our instinct is to run away, they deliberately train themselves to go toward. Not a lot of people can be that brave. I pray the wind shifts too.
