The Hindus have a theory about life.
Birth to 20 years of age is the age of youth.
20 to 40 is the age of the warrior.
40 to 60 is the head of the household.
60+ is the age of self-actualizing.
It’s a bit like Maslow’s heirarchy of needs which is based on a theory that human nature is essentially good. Human beings and our lives are way more fluid than neat little models.
I don’t think these US soldiers will get any brownie points from the brass.
The first soldier is 36 and his thoughts are published in an Australian newspaper.
Interesting read….and he focuses on American lives lost.

The second soldier is blogging, and the thoughts are not written for newspapers.
The words tumble, they are more raw.
2 individuals serving their country and coming to terms with all that means.

My wife or the meeting?
This is a different kind of soldier, voicing a different kind of war.
I got home, feeling rushed and was selfishly bummed out to hear my wife say she needed to stay home and rest tonight rather than go to our meeting… I was pissed. Sentences with words such as “commitment,” “administration” and other nonsense spewed out of my mouth in some pious, pharisaical crap pile. I broke her spirit and I only had five minutes to get to our meeting.
The permalinks aren’t working….scroll down to September 18th.

Toronto
One of Canada’s largest cities has had a, er, colorful mayor. Mel Lastman is at the end of his political career and David Artemiw had an opportunity to observe him when no reporters and aides were around.
Usually, when a well-known politician is seen in public someone will say something to him or her no matter how loved or hated he or she is.
Nobody said anything to Lastman. Lots of people looked, some stared, and others commented to their companions. But nobody said anything directly to Lastman. Not hello, not hey you bum, not noooooooobody.
It was sad. I don’t know if it could be seen in Lastman’s eyes but I know that I thought then that his political career was over.
Saudis and Canada
Hello. Mr. Graham and the Department of Foriegn Affairs.
Stay on this one please. I don’t think a polite diplomatic note from Saudi Ambassador Mohammed al-Husseini saying Canadian William Sampson wasn’t tortured is sufficient now, is it?
I don’t like this book!
The American Library Association has released the 100 most frequently challenged books for the years 1990 to 2000.
Hangover drug
Big deal. Drinking someone under the table and ‘avoiding’ the hangover.
It was to the KGB.
Now it is to Hollywood stars.
Pay now, pay later, your choice.
This ticks me off.
