The BBC has a quiz on the different ways we think.

Some people have a strong preference for one style of thinking, and find some skills come more naturally than others. Other people tend to adopt different thinking styles in different situations.

This test gives you an idea of what your current thinking style or styles are. But remember - the brain is a very adaptive organ. You should be able to improve your performance in any one of these categories with practice.

Interpersonal thinkers:

Like to think about other people, and try to understand them
Recognise differences between individuals and appreciate that different people have different perspectives
Make an effort to cultivate effective relationships with family, friends and colleagues

Other Interpersonal thinkers include
Winston Churchill, Mother Teresa, William Shakespeare

Careers which suit Interpersonal thinkers include
Politician, Psychologist, Nurse, Counsellor, Teacher

We all have different strengths and weaknesses and vary in ways we approach people, situations and problem solving.

Most people would agree that Mozart was a genius - but Mozart would probably have struggled with Einstein’s theories just like the rest of us. This doesn’t mean that one man was more clever than the other – they just thought in very different ways.

Many psychologists now believe that what we call intelligence can be subdivided into different categories, all of which can all be measured independently. Different kinds of thinking are needed to solve different problems.

This quiz is called What Kind of Thinker are You?

Wendy Cooper has a neat post up on the signal to noise ratio. Honest, actually it is really neat!

Looking back…looking forward takes the same theme and puts it into a dance.

Blog bashing
The New York type of cliche writing, cynical and sniffy…take a chill pill.

Blog is a four-letter word. Time was—and what a glorious time it was—we could update our website with personal anecdotes, stories, bits of miscellaneous writing, and it hadn’t been given a name. Wired was still interesting, the Electronic Frontier Foundation was fighting the good fight and we early adapters were going to change the world. That’s right, change the world. We were laying the foundation for a lush creative paradise.

Or, better yet, quite your griping and really look at some of the creativity on blogs out there.

Blogging is not the new journalism. It’s the new zine. They will disappear when some of the more high-profile bloggers—those who came up from nothing with a will to write, not those high-vis journos who slummed in the freeform—find jobs in the mainstream press, where they clearly thirst to be. Their sites will atrophy, and the left-behinders will become bitter, scream “sellout” and lose interest.

The blog is a dead form within two years. On the outside.

Often And Then Again is an amazing writer. He takes me places that leave me puzzled…and empathizing. He is a connecter with words. I laughed this morning when I came upon his comment where he turns a word or two and says it all…one of those funny/sad comments that make one pause. It’s in the post below, Bashing the French.

JewsWeek looks at Rosh Hashanah, the New Year, and the necessity of renewal.

The objective, therefore, in every act of renewal, is to our outer and inner identity without modifying our essence. Man must grow, but he must do so without becoming something he never was before. The changes he implements must accord with his deepest self.

I’ve been clicking over to Super Blessed a lot lately….waiting like Ganns…for a big event in his life.

Politics
I have a couple of friends that have become a bit more politically aware lately.
I think it’s terrific, even if I am a bit cynical and burned out, I’m enjoying listening to them think things through. David Artemiw is following the Ontario election. I really agree with his off-hand observation here.

The Tory strategy was to question McGuinty’s leadership qualities. Those have been effectively dispelled both during the campaign and last night. Voters haven’t asked the questions the Tories wanted them to ask.

The Gutless Pacifist is celebrating a blog day. Happy blogday Pen et al!

Missing a blogger already
exclamationmark…Mark Morris, one of my all time favorite bloggers has taken his blog down. I didn’t get to see the last post, I’m now getting a 404.
Mark is getting married in three weeks. He’s a guy who had some tough struggles in life, and came through with guts, hard work, compassion and awe.
And Mark has an understanding of Canadians that was remarkable.
Mark….I hope you return to the blogosphere. I’ll be the first to re-link you.

In the meantime, as you prepare for marriage here is my blessing for you and Ellie.

I ask that as Jesus blessed the wedding at Cana by refilling the wine jugs for the newly married couple, that He also continually refill the wine of your marriage by keeping it rich and exciting, and overflowing with love.

I hope you will grow together to be generous listeners, best friends and firm support for one another.

I hope for you a life of love and dreams that makes you both better and fulfilled people with a zest for living.

I hope for you a home filled with laughter and delight, and joyous stories! I hope that these stories of your love and life are recorded in the minds and hearts of your children and friends.

I hope that as your life together progresses, you will be able to say, like the little flower in Hinds Feet on High Places,”Behold, I am acceptance with joy.”

I hope for continued communication between you both of your hopes, fears, drives, dreams, and priorities.

I hope for friends in your life who will support and challenge your love for one another, and who will be touched by the light of your love.

I hope for years and years together of honesty, devotion, openness, humor, fidelity, intimacy, passion, honor, fun, respect, unity, romance and joy.

As the song says, “Love is a many splendored thing”, may your life together be full of splendid memories.

Redwood Dragon is also preparing for a multi-faith ceremony and hasn’t been blogging much. Quite understandable, the marriage will take place in about a month.

May the fires of your love keep you happy and warm;
May the strength of your love keep you safe from all harm.
May the light of your love guide your pathways together.
May the joy of your love keep you happy forever.

Thanks for the great links as always Bene. Doing the quiz as we speak…

The different thinker’s quiz is probably based off the research and theories of Howard Gardner. He developed the theory of multiple intelegences. The idea is pretty big in education circles, except we approach it from a “how do people learn?” standpoint.

I will post my results over at my site.

You made my day. Thank you, Bene!

I am a Linguistics thinker. Yeap, that sounds about right. =)

    Thanks for the blessing, Bene!

I didn’t really leave a “last post.” I just cancelled my account with TypePad as I had planned to quit my internet service all together. However, after I deleted my page and sent emails to my family about not being online for awhile, my internet provider, in an attempt to keep me hooked, offered me two free months to “think things over.” So I’ll be around to read emails and check out my blog friends for a few months longer. The decision to get offline was more of a financial thing than anything else. I’m trying to cut out any unneccesary expenses until after the wedding.

I’m glad to see you linked to John (Often and Then Again). John is a great writer and dear friend of mine. I was keeping up a web page when John introduced me to the “blog.” It certainly gave me a different perspective on life. He’s also a true Christian with real struggles. Very compelling reading.

    Nooooooooooooooooo! Not again, Mark!!! Arrrgh!

    (Sorry, Bene, needed to vent)

The quiz tells me I’m a musical thinker, but I don’t think that’s right - I think I should be a linguistic thinker. Still, who am I to argue with the quiz??! ;)
