The East Coast

Two people are dead after Juan swept the coast of Nova Scotia and PEI.
A paramedic was killed when a tree crashed down on his ambulance and another person was killed in their vehicle the same way.

100 thousand are without power in the Halifax area.
Two thirds of Prince Edward Island are also without power. The provincial election is being held today, and has not been cancelled.

Halifax is a mess, city crews are using snowplows to clear debris and the city remains in a state of emergency. For an area used to nor’easters this storm was a hard hit.

India
India’s government has banned a Yahoo chat because of fears the discussion group, the Kynhun forum, had links with banned separatists.
However, it has caused a hugh back-lash. India’s ISP’s (internet service providers) don’t have the technology to block a sub group, and by blocking this IP address they have taken down all Yahoo discussion boards.

Thousands are flooding the government Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN), asking the ban be lifted.

Keeping the US safe from single malt distilled whiskey
The US Defence Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) has been spying on the Scottish Bruichladdich distillery on Islay.

The US admitted watching the distilling process because it is similar to the manufacture of chemical weapons.

Hey, invite all the members of the DTRA over and pour them a drink.

Wow,I had no idea! The USA news media is so very parochial in its coverage……..
    My prayers in that direction!

Thanks Alicia….your prayers for the Canadian east coast are gratefully received.
I’ve been unable to contact some friends due to evacuations and power outages.

I’ll be praying also. May God bless and keep your friends.

The whole thing with the DTRA watching a distillary is rather embarassing. Sometimes I feel like my government is way to paranoid. Somehow I feel like I should say that I’m sorry.

    Missy:

If it is any consolation, most of us look at the actions of the US government departments with amusement, as did the owners of the distillery.

As a resident, you have no need to feel like you should say you are sorry.

Most of us are capable of distinguishing between the paranoia of government bureaucrats and citizens.
I admit tangling with a frightened and angry American this past year from the Washington area was an eye-opener. It must be terrible to go through life thinking others are out to get you. Blog on!
