Ice, Sun and Light

The sun has released another flare which will hit earth tomorrow. It is the third largest recorded flare in history.

Meanwhile, satellite operators and power grid managers are preparing to endure a potentially damaging event. And astronauts aboard the international space station have taken cover from heavier radiation sent out by the flare. They are not expected to be in any serious danger.
Kicked up at 6 a.m. ET Tuesday, the major solar eruption comes on the heels of four other flares late last week and over the weekend. All were considered fairly severe, but the latest eruption makes the others seem like solar sneezes.

In 1989 a flare knocked out the power grid of an entire Canadian province.
Depending on where this is directed disruption could occur predicted for satellites, power systems and even mobile phones because of a solar storm.

The most dramatic and beautiful effect of the geomagnetic storm is the Aurora Borealis. God’s light show, dancing colours, leaping lights, crackles and snaps and ionization in the air that makes your skin prickle, and the hair on the back of your neck stand up.

There was a book by a Christian author called Solar Flare that I read. A solar flare that was large enough took out all the electicity in the world. I wouldn’t recommend it though. It was very poorly written and I didn’t finish it.

I think you’ve got a bit of flair yourself.
