I mentioned that my kid sister participated in the Washington Marathon last week.
Some people might say my siblings and I are stubborn, I prefer to call it tenacity.:^)

She worked hard as anyone preparing for a marathon would. At one stage, she had to stop training when her lung capacity was at only 30% (asthma).

She didn’t finish last week. She collapsed at the 21M marker and was cared for by some ‘good looking medic Marines’. She can’t wait until next year.

I got this email last night. Everyone should have a tenacious kid sister.

Tonight my peers in the Jean’s Marines voted me the “Personal Courage” award. It is a beautiful statue with an eagle on it and an inscription that reads “The Jean’s Marines Personal Courage Award - Presented annually by a vote of peers. There is the United States Marine Corps insignia beside this and then it has the inscription:
“They will soar on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not be faint.”
I can’t express how amazing this has been. the journey was in itself rewarding and life-changing….but this award has made me feel like I’ve never felt before in my life. I am forwarding one of the e-mails that were sent nominating me for the award, which has so touched me that I sat here and cried. Thank you all for supporting me on this journey.
If there is anyone out there that gets this e-mail and is still up, please instant messenge me, or call me…..I need to wind down and talk to someone!

She was wound up, the email came in at midnight! I’m really proud of you kiddo.

Congrats to your sister! My hometown has a half-marathon every year that I used to run in when I did the distance runner thing.

And I agree with you, stubborness to some is tenacity to others. But my dad calls it being bullheaded. It runs in abundance in my clan, too.

Thanks Bene for your kind words. I am proud of you for this blog…you do more good than I do. But, I’m still “blissed” out with this award.

Hey P….blissed strikes me as a wonderfully normal response to peer recognization and personal achievement. Enjoy it to the fullest eh? BD
