There are reports coming out of Washington that Hussein has been captured.
There have been reports before, however, there will be a US news conference in a few hours from the Green Zone in Iraq, which will be early morning in the west.
If the US President makes the statement later today, the administration cannot afford to make a mistake in identification which will be based on stored DNA.
A raid based on intelligence in his home town Tikrit today netted someone high up in Hussein’s circle….it is possible it could be his former right hand man, as well as other captures.
Because it is known he has altered his physical appearance the military and administration will have to have irrefutable proof it is him.

The BBC is reporting PM Tony Blair has confirmed the capture:
Members of the Iraqi Governing Council and Kurdish officials said he had been captured in his ancestral hometown of Tikrit, north of the capital Baghdad.
The BBC is also reporting that he was in an underground bunker, wearing a disguise.
Celebratory gunfire has broken out all over Bagdhad.
The BBC is also reporting the DNA tests are positive.

Yes, it is true, no disguise just age, being on the rin and hair growth have changed his appearence. May he now be tried in Iraq byt Iraq judges using criteria set by International Court for War crimes not something put together by the USA, I wish the USA will be able to step back and enable not stick their hands up the jackets of puppets to do their bidding. I suspect the death and destruction will not cease nor slow down till the Irag people feel they are no longer occupied but have their hands on the tiller no matter that the course they set may not be a straight one to democracy in the model of the USA.
Congrats on the “scoop” BD - I got this from you before I heard it anywhere else.
Hi Richard:
It wasn’t a scoop. I flipped over to CNN and they were scrambling so I flipped over to CBC which had the BBC on who weren’t.
I can understand the caution from the US media this time.
And checking the net, a Canadian news outlet was way ahead.
I’m glad he has been found, I hope and pray the Iraqi people will begin to find their way and heal from their fears.
I don’t think that this is going to put an end to the war anytime soon. I know if the sistuation was reversed and they were over here and captured our presedent I don’t think that our military would just give up.
I hope there won’t be any terrorist attacks in the coming few days or weeks. Looking at the man on TV, it’s hard for me to believe how much power he’s got remained living in holes like that for the past 10 years.
I say, let him be tried by the Iraqi people…those he tormented for decades. Perhaps he will end up like Mussolini. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy…
And I don’t think he’s been living in holes for the past ten years…just for a few months. Before that I think he lived in some pretty nice digs (palaces and such). Whatever the case, I’m not going to feel sorry for him for living in a spider hole. I’d rather save my compassion for the people he tortured and murdered.
