It appears that the Liberal Party people may have got the message.
Between threats from the webmaster and a nasty letter from a law firm, the guys at paulmartintime.ca have shown integrity and openess.
Most people don’t have the opportunity to have the media pick up thier battle, and have bloggers pay attention.
I didn’t even get an automated response from the PM’s office. Get a clue people.
I know that Parliament Hill is ghost-like this time of year with everyone flocking to warmer climes, but that is not the point.
There are two things that tick me off about this incident.
1) No accountabiity
2) No accountability
There is no point in ranting, although I am too sorely tempted to for anyones good, including mine.
The webmaster won’t apologize or get chastised and the law firm people will stay in their ‘meetings’.
I suspect because the media picked this up that Paul Martin is aware of this particular incident. I’ve no doubt his top aides are aware now.
Or has he? At least that is what the Prime Minister’s Office told a reporter for CTV, who enthusiastically relayed the information to me, mere hours before a scheduled appearance on Canada AM. We were ecstatic; victory was ours.
Ecstasy was soon replaced by confusion, however, as we were perpetually unable to confirm this news. Wanting to hear it from the horse’s mouth, we called the Liberal Party, but to no avail. We then called the lawyers representing Martin and the Liberals, who conspicuously seemed to be in a “meeting” for days on end. And unsurprisingly, no one from the Prime Ministers Office would dare pick up the phone.
Nearly two weeks of emails, phone calls and warm, friendly messages, and we have heard nothing in return.
Having been on the receiving end of threats and intimidation, I feel for these guys. Their politics may not be secondary to the Liberals but when the party faithful bully this way simply because they can, it doesn’t matter what political fence we sit on.
In an ideal democracy these dudes should get an apology.
Canada is far from an ideal democracy so I guess they’ll make do with the silence. It’s better than what was coming at them a few weeks ago.
Legally, we’re fairly comfortable with our current position. Paul Martin is unlikely to sue us, as I doubt he wants to risk a media
