Pakistan and Laos have now joined the list of countries affected by avian flu.
Millions and milllion of chickens are being culled, 7 people are dead.
Interesting, isn’t it, that animal rights activists aren’t crying fowl when chickens are buried live in Thailand?
Bird flu first crossed the species barrier in 1997 and is an influenza.
Two subtypes of influenza A virus; H5N1 and H9N2 have been known to cross.
Currently, seven deaths in Asia are known to have resulted from contact with infected birds.
Medical scientists are concerned the virus could ‘latch’ onto a human virus or mutate, causing person to person transmission.
Travel advisories are out for some infected countries. There is no vaccine available. Symptoms include fever, coughing, weakness, pneumonia and conjunctivitis.
I came home this evening to a lot of email.
A mass mailing worm called MyDoom or Norvag is out on the internet. This rapidly spreading worm has a malicious attachment that is set for a DoS (denial of service attack) starting February 1st through the 12th, as well as working as a proxy server.
Novarg is being labelled wild by security companies because of it’s rapid spread today.

Rapid spread is a slight understatement… In the past, I’ve barely run into a computer virus… I usually will get one in my email every month or two, which my virus scan tells me about, and life goes on… but this Norvag… I have recieved 14 emails with attachments containing it. My virus scan caught it of course, but it’s really really annoying to have the virus scan pop up three or four times everytime you check your email… Well, at least it’s working…
I’ve never seen this type of rapid spread either.
I am getting emails from me…which means someone with my blog addy has the worm.
I’ve gotten about 20 Novargs from all kinds of strange places in the last 3 hours, another friend has had about 80 today.
Fortunately, one I didn’t see in Mailwasher got quarantined by Norton. Protection is now available in a virus protection update.
Check out my plot on the virus:
