I have great respect for creative people that come up with an idea, self-start, and work with a company for the benefit of the consumer or fan.

However, the further up you go in a company, the less in touch they often are.
NZ Idol blog is a classic example of what happens when a short sighted legal department has too much time on it’s hands and bottom line to worry over.
Life is a series of challenges, and it is wise to know when to show and when to fold.
This is a case of fans versus money.
If a blog is started for the fans and they get behind it, it just isn’t smart for the production company to change horses in mid-stream.
But they have.
And a blog can recognize a copyright bluff and step sideways.

The Idol shows have been a world-wide phenonemen. Why?
I don’t think it’s complicated.
It’s about obscurity and chances.
It’s about cheering for the little guy.
It’s about putting yourself in someone else’s shoes and watching them go.
NZ Idol blog doesn’t have to worry about the bottom line, they can cater to the fans because they are fans themselves. They are the demographic the show is for. They can adjust rapidly to the whims of production company executives whose goal is merely monetary.
When a fan blog is bullied, they can gracefully acquise, change the URL, keep their integrity, stay creative, and cheer others on.

Thanks BD for the support. It’s pretty crazy really, especially the part about not allowing the site to have any images from the show. When you think about all the thousands of fan sites out there…

It is old-school company behaviour isn’t it?
Entertainment is about money and in any production company you get flexible, creative people and others that er, uh really aren’t.
    Blogs are about people, hopefully.:^)
This is the fifth time in 2 years I’ve seen a blog I care about and read, bullied like this.
    Blog on!
