Doing a bit of leap blogging yesterday, I mostly saw political commentary on the bombing in Madrid.
There were exceptions, bloggers that paused to understand the terrible toll this has taken on people out going about their lives…mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters.
Dry Bones Dance is worried about a friend and posts eloquently under some days it feels like the bad guys win.
When I visited her a few years back, we went to the train station near the amazing Museo del Prado, which is where one of the bombs went off. Madrid is a beautiful city and the people I met there were phenomenally hospitable to me and patient with my error ridden Spanish and inability to follow the conversation in group settings. So, I hope she and everybody else I met there is okay.
Wanderings of a Post Modern Pilgrim also recognizes the unity of humanity and shared grief.
I have had the whole day to think about the attacks in Spain on Thursday morning. Nearly 200 dead and over 1400 hurt. The numbers stagger the mind. No, they are not the numbers of 9/11, but they will be the numbers of 3/11. It is not the numbers that strike us numb with shock, it is the act itself. I am still reeling when I picture the beauty of that wonderful Atocha station being shattered by the explosions. I am reacting almost as strongly as I did to 9/11. It comes out of the blue, unexpected, and devastating. Some of it, of course, is that two years ago next month I walked through that station a number of times. I have been there and seen it’s life. Just as I had been to New York many times and seen those wonderful towers.
11 million people have taken to the streets in sorrow and anger as families begin to bury their dead.
Sometime the good guys win
Many of us have missed one of our favorite bloggers, who hasn’t been on line in awhile. There is some good news, at looking back…looking forward. there will be a new member of the Bott family soon as the adoption process is almost complete. They’ll be travelling to China in about 6 weeks and Rowan Zhao Xuan Tennant will be welcomed to Canada.

Thanks for pointing out these posts, Bene. In times like these words seem completely inadequate, but these posts give the tragedy the “human edge” that is all too often ignored in the shock of the moment. Thanks again.
