On May 16th, Prime Minister Paul Martin will probably announce we are going to the polls June 28th.
‘Bout time.
I’ve seen some Conservative Party ads - “I’m Steven Harper.”
Tame so far. That’s not what we are hearing about the Liberal ads.
If they start the negative advertising, I don’t think they’ll win points with the undecided.
The last several weeks we’ve watched ad-scam unfold, the rancour in the ranks and the glad-handling trips passing out pre-election goodies.
We the electorate can be so easily swayed.

All I can say is thank goodness OURS only goes on for 47 days or so.
There has been debate in Canada on whether to hold to fixed election times. A parlimentary system is just different - I don’t know how the US manages to sustain an almost year long presidental election campaign, but they do.
I wonder if disinterested or disengaged Canadians may pay a bit more attention through May and June?
How do we sustain it? We just put up with a lot of TV ads and try to change the channel during commerical breaks.
One difference is that in the US, candidates run as individuals, whereas in Canada, the parties compete. That means more desire time (and money) to develop differences between yourself, your party and the opponant.
Being under the weather I’ve been watching TV.
Whew. The commercial time is up to what - 12 minutes or so an hour?
We do get some US presidental ads on cable (ex:A&E). Canadian stations are required to ID tag and substitute Cancon.
This yet-to-be-called election is putting strong broadcast ad focus on Layton, Harper and Martin, and we haven’t heard much party platform rhetoric yet. I haven’t paid much attention to the Bloc.
No matter how it’s played, 47 or so days is more than enough, thanks.:^)
