It’s my twin’s birthday today.

So, I’m off to celebrate.

I asked some bloggers to send me a link to a favorite post, with a brief explanation of why they liked it, so you and I could enjoy thier pick too.

Been There, Still There picked “The Sky is Watching” by Saadat.

Although Saadat normally focuses on things other than politics, this post was written in March 2003 as the United States prepared for war against Iraq. Not only can it be appreciated as a Muslim perspective, but also as that of a random Pakistani. Reading this post, as well as Saadat’s blog, I began to see a Middle Easterner and Muslim as a brother, instead of as one of those people living ‘over there.’

DogfightAtBankstown picked “I gotta go pee!” from What in Tarnation?!?!?.
Christopher is on vacation and locked down the archives to prevent spammers from taking over, so the second pick is Picnix “Wee Brother Update”

Paul’s entry is titled ‘wee brother update’ for 9 Dec 03 following the death of his younger brother after 17 years with AIDS. This is not a ‘favourite’ - how can it be. It’s gut-wrenching, searing and real.

Fructus Ventris says the request to pick a favorite post is a bit like asking a mother of 6 to name her favorite child. Apologia’s “All Quiet” hit my in box.

It is well written, and makes its multiple points in understated and telling fashion. Mr. Luse has his way with the English language, and she responds. I had the pleasure a few months ago to meet him in person, and he speaks as clearly as he writes. Also, his grapefruit truly is a delicious as he claims.

The Dane at Nowheresville, USA picked “Declaring War on Uncontrollable Fires.”

…most bloggers, while writing about interesting issues or experiences are just not adept at the rare art of storytelling. Johnny T, the author of Memoirs of a Samurai Barber, however, presents a delectably entertaining take on life, the universe, and everything…I chose this particular post as it initially seems to be just more silliness from Johnny T, but upon a more attentive look, we see that the author is really pointing out his feeling that both the war on drugs and the war on terrorism are misplaced in their sense of accomplishment by comparing them to the abolishment of uncontrollable fires.
