Did you notice while reading blogs this week that the ads at the top of the platform Blog*Spot are gone?
Good. The ads were annoying. Some were incongruous to the content of the blogs.
Google redesigned Blogger in May, offering users more template designs.
The new navbar has a Google SiteSearch box to search the blog you’re viewing, as well as shortcuts to add blog entries to your own Blogger-powered blog, sign up for a new blog, or visit a random blog. The Navbar appears on all hosted Blog*Spot blogs, but can be disabled for users publishing to third-party hosts via FTP.
Searches in the navigation bar take users to a results page on the Google site, where AdWords ads are served to the right of the organic search results.
According to the Blogger site, the goal was to improve access to key Blogger features: “The Blogger navbar replaces the default ad block formerly inserted on blogspot.com pages with a more useful navigation tool.”

I really like the new changes, and the random blog button brings in quite a few hits, actually, although I would suspect that those might drop off over time.
You know, your page isn’t displaying properly in my browser (I use Safari). It’s always displayed right before this, but today what’s supposed to be the sidebar is showing up down the main part of the page and covering up the left third of your blog posts.
I have to admit I think this was a good move by Blogger. And your blog looks fine on IE6 and Netscape 7.0 if that helps.
but I miss the sexy baptists ads…
- Peace
I definitley prefer having that, than the adds shame google didn’t offer free shares to all bloggers?
Rebecca:
Safari has been a problem, for some reason doesn’t want to comply with standards.
Sorry about that, Cre8d hasn’t been able to fix whatever the glitch is. Every complaint about the browser is the same issue.
Thanks for this info.
Actually, that new tool bar offers quite a bit… it’s given me some ideas
More on that soon!
I’ve actually gotten a few more hits each day, since there’s the new “Next Blog” button.
AND I’m happy that all the ‘church furniture’ ads are gone from View from the Pew!!
I like the new navbar, too, and I’ve noticed more traffic to my blog lately.
Blog on!
Hmmm, looks like you have two definitions for #menu in the style sheet. Maybe Safari/KHTML is picking up the right one according to CSS standards. Try removing one of them - or alternately move the menu block to before the content block in the template.
I love the new changes. And I really like the new templates they added back in May. Good on you Google!
