Connexions has come up with a thought, with some action to go with it.
You’ve seen a great many posts on this blog about labels - particularly using political labels to categorize believers. Labelling certainly isn’t limited to election years, but it does seem to be a very peculiar trait we tend to see in North America. The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq made it easier to slip into the lazy inclusiveness of lumping someone into an category.
You’ve also see posts here speaking up against verbal abuse in comment threads and posts peculiar to pundit blogs, equating a person’s spiritual worth with their political stance. I’m far from the only god-blogger weary of this. Many god-bloggers and their readers have stopped frequenting some politically oriented blogs, and many in the international community no longer attempt to engage with bloggers interested in US politics. I think that’s a shame, many more of us continue attempts to find common ground as catholics protestants, coptics and orthodox, emergent, or whatever. The majority of bloggers are interested in building, repecting relationships, not tearing others down or separating into like minded groups. Most of us want to learn and listen and are eager to reach across culture and experience.
You’ve also seen posts about hurt, about being dismissed, mocked, blocked, flamed, delinked, left out, belittled, or misunderstood with no opportunity for re-dress.
These things happen to every blogger in varying degrees, which is why I remain even more committed to this medium and the terrific people participating in it.
There are excellent bloggers speaking up about ignorance and abuse online, with a kindness, maturity and wisdom that puts me to shame.
There are a number of growing and well maintained god-blog lists. A few years ago that wasn’t the case. Now many bloggers use aggregators, connexions is one that is being openly shared.
Richard’s aggregator is not ‘creating’ another group of god-blogs, it is not about separating, labels or rules. It is not about blogs that abuse others, set agendas, mock, or bloggers that try to be the smartest debater. It is not about ownership and it is not about being ‘right’, and forcing others to conform. It isn’t about being the best, getting the spotlight or gathering hits and bragging rights.
It’s an aggregator.

Not all Christians are conservative or “right wing”, but you knew that. Unfortunately, not everyone does. As a tiny challenge to the notion that “Christian=conservative” I’ve set up a little aggregator at Server.com. Originally it was for my own benefit, but I don’t see any harm in inflicting it on the world. It isn’t pretty, but I’m not convinced that matters. These are the UnRight Christians.
If I’ve offended anyone by including them I humbly apologise. A comment here will have you removed in a trice with no hard feelings. Equally, anyone who wants to be in will be added right speedily. All you need is an rss feed.

As a Christian who is generally conservative but resists the cartoon caricature of same, I guess if I could get my head around the concept of how establishing yet another group of the “we’re not you” blogs is supposed to make things better, I might be interested in this. I’ve quit blogging about U.S. politics, never mind even touching on international politics because that was the price of keeping peace among my “international” readers, whatever that’s supposed to mean. I don’t talk about controversial doctrinal issues, and anytime I stick my toe in the emerging discussion or comment on generational differences, someone comes along and thumps me.
So, I welcome you to stop by Reverend Mike’s House of Homiletic Milquetoast and read the nothing I’ve been writing lately. Commenting on anything of substance that affects anyone outside of my own local sphere is just too upsetting to people. It ain’t too interesting, but danged if it ain’t politically correct.
Mike:
My woes with pundits have nothing to do with an occastional post. I didn’t mean to make a caricature of anyone.
I don’t think Richard is establishing another ‘we’re not you’, I wouldn’t have posted if I believed or thought or even felt that.
Any words and tone in my post are strictly my own. Please don’t hold Richard accountable for my word.
I’m sorry the price of attempting peace among international readers is hurtful for you.
I enjoy a lot of discussion with readers from all over the world about politics.
Richard has led the way in reaching out to many countries and many people.
You might wish to read the comments under his post. You’d be surprised at who understands his purpose.
I’m also very sorry my post evoked a statement causuing you believe that commenting on anything of substance upset people. I have never bee upset by you.
I enjoy you and your blog Mike. I find you thoughtful, educational and a good teacher.
Please forgive me if I stepped on you or irritated and harmed you in any way. Blog on!
