I don’t know about you, but I have a headache, my blog is getting spammed again, I turn on Canadian news and get more election coverage from the south.
Sigh. Je suis fatigué.
Even an information junkie such as myself can get over satiated, saturated, sotted.
Many US voters honestly believe that they are electing the leader of the free world. 600 million dollars has been spent on radio and television ads alone, I guess voters and workers have to believe. 600 million for only two forms of media for four years in an office.
I read US blogs and feel badly for people bombarded with telemarketing, pushed and pulled on single issues and values voting. I read about the wrong t-shirt at a rally, the lawyers lined up, the anger and polarization.
Is any one else tired?
There is more than one leader in the free world, but now is not the time to tell my American friends that. It would be like telling South Koreans their leader isn’t Supreme. Such a thought would be blasphemous, it is the individuals turn to speak in their polling booth.
But 600 million. Dear God, how we westerners consume.
How foolish and fractional we believers can be. The noise, the urgency, the fever, preaching, persuasiveness, the passion - as if salvation hung on an election instead of a cross.
I know people are afraid. I know we live in now, while planning for tomorrow. I know power is the currency that runs the world. I know we need to believe we are masters of our destiny, that we are good, that we are right. I know money has to look well spent, for we have consumed.
I’ll clean up the spam, turn off the media, deal with the information hangover, and allow stillness to supervene.
The LORD reigns forever;
he has established his throne for judgment.
He will judge the world in righteousness;
he will govern the peoples with justice.
The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed,
a stronghold in times of trouble.
Psalm 9: 7-9

I was horrified at the amount spent on the election when our local news mentioned it recently. Imagine if that amount had gone toward relieving poverty (in the USA first, then elsewhere), or sorting out environmental issues or any of the many other things that the government apparently “can’t afford”. I too can’t wait for this election to be over - as a South African.
According to a news report today, a total of 1.214 BILLION dollars has been spent on the 2004 US election campaigns. When it’s all over, I just hope Americans feel they got good value for money.
1.214 billion dollars.
That is stunning.
There are 294,664,040 people.
217 million are voting age.
Election night was spent with the television off. When we did turn it on, we opted for the syndicated sitcoms on the independent stations and a DVD.
This Ohio voter is glad the campaign is over. Let the lawsuits begin/continue, and let’s keep acknowledging God’s sovereignty over it all.
My wife and I deeply believed that when we visited the poll yesterday.
May God bless the USA and the rest of the world as he uses his people to bring more to him! AMEN!
