Nine Iranian bloggers will go on trial next week in Iran. They have been in jail since September.

They have been held in solitary confinement and have not been allowed to see their families or their lawyer.

They are charged with:

“propagating against the regime, acting against national security, disturbing public opinion and insulting religious sanctities,”

according to Reuters. Within the last four years about 100 reform publications have been shut down by the current government. Many bloggers are former journalists.

Their trials will be in open court.

Stop and think about them from where you are sitting right now.
You are most likely in your home, or at your job - browsing blogs, you may have one yourself and you’ve just posted or are getting ready to post.

You are comfortable, unafraid and free to say what is on your mind. It’s highly improbable there will be a knock on your door because of what you’ve posted.
It’s just blogging after all, it’s something you do for fun, and short of uttering threats you can put up anything you want without fear of retribution by your government.

What are you concerned about when you blog? Spammers, trolls, flaming? Technical glitches, typos?
Being misunderstood? Legal action? Or nothing at all?

It’s quite sobering after watching a blog war nicknamed ‘Pandagate’ echo around Australian blogs to then read this.

    Very sobering.
