It is typhoon season in the Philippines and as I posted a whine last night tens of thousands of people fled to shelters, thousands of people remain stranded on rooftops and hundreds are dead. In the northern part of the Philippines hundreds more are missing and presumed dead.
The storms aren’t stronger than they are in the past, but more people are losing thier lives.
It is estimated that about 13 pecent of the forest in the Philippines remains.
Years of corruption and illegal logging have stripped the countryside. Even weak typoons are causing massive mud slides and flooding. In spite of government attempts to crack down illegal logging continues.
