There have been several books written about blogging, Rebecca Blood’s: The Weblog Handbook being a popular and initial entry into the field.

The current book about blogging making the rounds is by a US pundit named Hugh Hewitt entitled Blog. Both authors have blogs, one is in a social network/technical field and one is a pundit.

This one being put together makes a great deal of sense. It is tentatively titled:
100 Bloggers: An Invitation and Introduction to Blogging.
These contributors are not what many would call mainstream bloggers.
To hear political and technical bloggers tell it, this medium is mainstream.
A lot depends on what one would call mainstream.
Or, blogs are often dismissed as navel gazing narcissism. On the other end of the spectrum are those pushing to be influential, garnering hits and catching the attention of movers and shakers.
Vast amounts of ‘how to’ have been written by bloggers, put into wikis and it can be a daunting task for anyone wishing to start a blog to sort through the information.

The reality of blogs or the blogosphere is a vast and enriching middle area where the concept of community and blogging takes on realistic meaning.

The purpose of the book is to push blogging further into the mainstream - to give people a taste of what blogging is all about and extend an offer for them to join us.

Inclusion. Community. Participation.

I still get questions about blogging and I still hear people dismiss it as narcissism run amuck. My goals on this project are really simple and straightforward: to show what cool stuff people are talking about online. The great conversations that are taking place. The connections that are possible.

Fragments from Floyd is one of the contributors. If you go over to his blog I can guarantee you’ll come away refreshed and inadvertently more knowledgeable than when you clicked over. It is a blog that reminds us there is more to life than striving. Fred is a keen observer, excellent writer, who helps us move gently with the cycles of life.

    Bene,

Rebecca is spelled with one b, two c’s. Don’t worry, you’re in good company spelling it the way you did….

    Thanks. Fixed.
And no, I won’t delete your comment, I appreciate you pointing out the typo. Must be interesting to have a name that can be so callously mis-spelled. :^)

    Bene,

LOL!! Add one more to the list! Jon. My parents idea of a cruel joke - name me the most popular name in America, but spell it wrong…. I get “John” all the time.

Anyway… thank you for the mention of the book. If there is one thing that is for sure is that we’ll all get to meet some people we otherwise might not have, and to me, that is worth every bit of energy put into this.

    THANK YOU!

    Jon

    Hey Jon:
    Seems like a terrific idea.
I hope I get the opportunity to read it.
    Good on you. Blog on!

    And I guess you’re just on a roll. If you don’t mind, BD, I spell my name with a ph. Floyd, however, is spelled with an F. :-}

    Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

Thanks for the kind words, and the exhortation that so many of us follow: Blog on! And also with thee.
