This is an interesting study.
Canadians spend less time with friends than Americans and people in the UK.

And men spend more time with friends than women do in all three countries.

On average, Canadians report spending 8.7 hours a week with their friends, slightly less than Americans’ 8.9 hours and far less than Britons’ whopping 11.1 hours.

Men in Canada spend an average of 9.4 hours a week with their chums, while women socialize for eight hours. (The gap was larger in the U.S., with men spending 10.4 hours weekly and women 7.6 hours.)

“Friendship seems to be the last thing that anyone’s getting to,” said Jan Yager, an American sociologist who has written several books on the subject. “Friendship is not something that you get to when everything else in your life is taken care of. It’s an important relationship even after the school years for emotional health, for career advancement, for physical well-being.”

Another find was that men build friendships around an activity like sports, while women use the phone and emails.

Huh. I always thought it was our weather.
