Daily Kos discovered that a conservative republican named Jeff Gannon had a secret life. His real name is Jim Guckert.

The discovery that the Talon News writer has alleged ties to several male prostitution sites was made when the blog was looking at what conservative writers had been paid by the Bush administration.

He had a press pass to the White House the past two years and had appeared at a grand jury after CIA agent Valerie Plame had been publically named.

This is really sad.
He had written several articles at the news site mocking ‘gay’ issues. All his writing has been taken down. He made an announcement that he is immediately returning to private life for the sake of his family.
It amazes me the double lives people feel they need to lead or chose to lead and I hope he and especially his family get the help they need.
Talon News is run by a Texas Republican consulting group. This isn’t a ‘gay’ story. It is a story about deception and fake media.

He had said he was ‘under attack.’

Gannon had written that liberals were out to get him because he’s a white conservative man who owns a gun, drives a sport-utility vehicle and is a born-again Christian.

The bigger story is the CIA memo.

I pray he gets help. I also pray for his family as well. All people can be redeemed.

I have to ask myself given three or four writers/reporters/pundits have been found to have been on the government payroll if he was set up to take the obvious fall.

This is dirty, dirty stuff, ties back to the Texas GOP, no media training, the leaked memo.

Was he centred out in the WH media briefing a few weeks ago so others could take him down?

I don’t know what his family does or doesn’t know, but they do need our prayers, what a long and terrible road they’ll be walking for awhile.

    Bene,

***This is dirty, dirty stuff, ties back to the Texas GOP, no media training, the leaked memo.***

I’m not sure the ties to the Texas GOP should be considered a big deal. Unlike other agencies, the publisher of Talon News never made it a secret that his “news service” was pro-GOP.

As for the leaked memo, Mr. Plame only has himself to blame for that one. The CIA initially tried to cover for the Plames (the story around DC is that Valerie’s service with the Agency was no secret — her husband having often bragged about it). But when ol’ Joe started running off at the mouth and telling lies that made other people look bad it was inevitable that a “leak” would surface. I despise the Washington political game but we shouldn’t make the Plames out to be martyrs.

Okay…I don’t know Talon News from squat.
I don’t know enough about lobby groups to comment.
I’ll leave that to US bloggers.

As the the Plume issue, I don’t think I’m making them out to be martyers. We know that Gannon/Gurkert leaked the memo. Some of the how, what, why and wherefores are being discovered.
Apparently the Plumes weren’t a big secret inside the beltway. Hardly the point.

The sites JD Gurkert ran were call services. Is that legal? Is it legal to use a fake name to obtain press credentials to the White House?
What did the Republican party do or not do here?
His sexuality isn’t ‘fair game’ as far as I’m concerned, but those web sites seem to be.
Is there a story there or not?

And yeah, politics are dirty, but I’m also left asking a very human question. How could he be so gullible?

I’m listening to the noise about the CNN guy, Eason. The facts aren’t in. What he said or didn’t say, etc. There are some ‘if’s still.

I see far fewer ifs’ in Gurkert’s story.

So what is your take on his involvement with the memo?
