I suppose there are a lot of private or even secret organizations that exist for various reasons, political, economic fraternal.
The Council for National Policy formed by Tim LaHay (Left Behind books) in 1981. It’s been described by Donald Rumsfeld as “the heart of a great conservative.
It’s executive director Steve Baldwin, describes it as a group that “controls everything in the world.”
The group has tax exempt status, after a prolonged battle with the IRS.
Author Sarah Postner does an investigative article in the Gadfly intitled:
Secret Society Just who is the Council for National Policy, and why aren’t they paying taxes?
CNP is not merely excluding outsiders from neighborhood bridge games. The prominence and power of its members – and their political clout within the Bush Administration – require, more urgently, the openness of its activities. But CNP has laughed in the face of the IRS and the American public’s right to know for more than twenty years, a period during which the radical right has aimed – and largely succeeded – in hijacking the Republican Party.
