I see that GetReligion has picked up on the Citizen Voice/Jerry Springer the Opera story out of the UK. And it appears the discussion has gone over somewhat the same ground it did at connexions.
The twist is that a few commenters (you are required to register) are looking at it from a free speech and economic perspective without benefit of background.
I would like to let Get Religion know that as of this posting because of the actions of Mr. Green, the Opera’s US backer has pulled out for now.
That particular show is currently a none issue for the US.
We are unaware of what ‘action’ Mr. Green and his backers have decided to take toward the BBC and the producers of the show.
One of the theatres in the UK booked for the fall tour also pulled out.
Sometimes the devil is in the details.
A good a place as any to get background is a UK blog.
At connexions we’ve been following Citizens Voice, Mr. Green, the threats to the BBC executives, the media coverage and the intentions of a group calling themselves Christian; harrassing, threatening and bullying mainstream media executives (who required security) and the charity Maggie’s Centres.

I couldn’t resist joining in that conversation. I’ll probably get flayed alive, but nobody seemed to be taking any notice of the British context at all.
I know, i should know better than sticking my oar in where it is not wanted. ;o)
I don’t think GetReligion will pay a spec of attention.
I’m sure something else will come along where you’ll get flayed alive (bloggerly speaking) in no time.:^)
It was sort of funny reading some of the comments.
You did some excellent posting on the controversy, so I grabbed the other oar.
Two metaphors, my gosh, are you a bit ruffled?
Good for you on commenting.
Notruffled, but very tired!
