The Northwest Mounted Police became the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1920. This is the first incident this tragic since the force was formed 120 years ago.

Four officers were shot to death yesterday at a farm in Rochfort Bridge Alberta.

Const. Peter Schiemann, 25; Const. Brock Myrol, 29; Const. Lionide Johnston, 34; Const. Anthony Gordon, 28.
Gordon was stationed at the Whitecourt RCMP detachment and the other three were from the Mayerthorpe detachment. Mayerthorpe has a population of 1,600.

Also found dead - 46-year-old Jim Roszko. His 80 year old father has called him a wicked devil. The burial of a man who kills police officers is a lonely and secretive thing.

59 officers of the NMP and RCMP members have been killed in the line of duty.
The current force is the provincial agency for all provinces except Ontario and Quebec. There are 20 thousand officers and about 200 municipal attachments.
