A Canadian blogger has been in a bit of a dust up with a Toronto CBC radio host.
Angry in the Great White North was objecting to the host not referring to an artist war protest group as being against George Bush. The blogger objects to his tax dollars being used for a public broadcasting system that wasn’t disclosing full information about Artists Against War.
You and Garvia Bailey should not be allowed to use my tax dollar to construct a soapbox from which to promote your leftist agenda, and that of groups like Artists Against War. I expect a more fair and balanced view for my tax dollar. If you decide to mention these events as a possible activity for the week, you should describe in more detail the uncompromising politics behind them.
He was rather surprised when host Andy Barrie suggested he’d be happier in Toledo.
Published 3 years, 8 months agoI’ve got a way for you not to pay for the CBC. Leave Canada.
Worked for me. I didn’t want to pay for the Viet Nam war, so I left. Consider it a fair trade. You’ll be in the only country in the industrialized world without a national broadcaster, and you’ll have the satisfaction of not having to see you tax dollars wasted. And I’ll have the satisfaction of knowing that someone who gets his facts from Fox won’t be voting in any more Canadian elections. You won’t have to be Angry in Toronto any more.
You can be Happy in Toledo.
Then everybody’s happy.

Why does the CBC have to be biased in the first place? Shouldn’t they value all people no matter what their views? Isn’t public radio just what it is public radio? I may disagree with NPR in the US but at least they make it a point to show that it is commentary and their opinion. They also give the news when certain facts come in that may undermine their conclusions rather than not state the facts at all. P.S. a person shouldn’t be put into a place to leave a nation in the first place. Especially a nation that values and protects the minority like the US. To me it is a double standard. If the “other side” were the minority in Canada I doubt Andy would be tooting this tune.
The CBC is made up of people.
Objectivity is a myth. Our CBC radio voices all sound the same, (quite modulated) I suspect Angry in the Great White North was rather surprised to get such a human response.
I thought this was quite funny.
If objectivity is a myth, which is a concept I don’t subscribe, even more a reason to be balanced and “inclusive” as the left subscribes. I didn’t think it is was funny. I never tell people if you don’t like it move to Canada. It just shows the double standard of the left. Everyone wants to point out what they think are double standards of the right but there are just as many if not more on the other side. I wasn’t surprised by the double standard.
CBC? They might be of people. what types of people? that is the question
All types Doug. Even me.
Exactly, that proves my point. All, though? that is a little bit of a stretch. hence my agreement with GWN.
Objectivity is a myth. And I’m not sure that it should even be something we should strive for. I’d rather know what someone really thinks about an issue than have them have to maintain some facade.
Unfortunately, what that means is that people need to think, and find out what people believe and compare it to what they believe. It would mean that we can’t just sit and absorb — we have to be active listeners. And we can’t handle that.
I have thought and I don’t have a facade. I am an active listener and compare and I just don’t agree with CBC’s stance. Especially in light of a my views and apparently GWN’s views totally removed from their presentation by CBC. I don’t think you can handle that.
“I suspect Angry in the Great White North was rather surprised to get such a human response.”
I was, and actually sort of pleased, as I mentioned in my post. The response had a Howard-Stern-quality (though classier) that I found surprising and refreshing.
Remember, as I’ve been maintaining throughout this, that I don’t care if Barrie likes me or not. I don’t care if he wants me to leave the country, or if he thinks I shouldn’t vote because I watch Fox. His opinions are interesting in that they suggest a certain mindset. But my beef has always been the same: how is it that the CBC can say that it is fair and comprehensive about delivering information, and yet neglect to mention something like this “art festival” is designed to raise money for a radical political group?
Funny thing - he has yet to answer that question.
Oh well.
Cheers
Doug: I don’t disagree with Great White North, in doing his show the host didn’t provide all the information about this group.
I don’t think Andy Barrie should be disciplined for failing to mention the groups intent.
And GWN certainly got the information out.
GWN: I doubt Andy Barrie knew the power of blogs and internet news sites.:^)
I think he was a bit rude to you, and I did find it funny. I trust you are okay. You may have caught him on a bad day.
It appears your disagreement was gracious, which made your ability to get your POV out all the more interesting and credible. Blog on!
I think he should be disciplined. I guess journalists these days do not practice what their taught.
DH:
He isn’t a journalist. He’s a staff announcer.
I don’t know the criteria in the US, here in Canada, a degree isn’t required to be on air staff, nor is a degree in journalism required for news staff.
We do have one university that I’m aware of that has a degree program in print journalism, most broadcast technical staff attend community college.
The CBC has a code of conduct for staff, and on air content is regulated by the CRTC.
Mr. Barrie sent an email, Angry in the Great White North does not want to see him disciplined for expressing a written personal opinion to a listener. I concur.
Working for the CRTC is easy money all you have to do is show up to work, drink coffee and watch TV. No rulings necessary because they are having too much fun. At least down south we get so much benefit for what we pay for in the FCC. Long live the FCC!!!
The CRTC is a relatively ineffective body.
When they receive a complaint they tend to rule in favour of the complainant.
You are more than welcome to write the CBC radio ombudsman and the CRTC and register a complaint about the situation with Angry in the Great White North and Mr. Barrie.
The CRTC regulates more than broadcasting, but will receive your complaint in this kind of situation.
The CBC sucks! Their radio and television programming is so biased and out of touch with the truth it is pathetic. But, that is just MY opinion.
Long live the US FCC!!!!!!!! Amen Arthur. Send a complaint to CRTC Arthur and let me know what happens on this site. You might find it won’t get anywhere even though they will receive the complaint.
