For the past month you may have seen a post or two here or there about a new website going up.

As I write this, it’s just past midnight in Spain and Robert Duncan promised himself he’d get a good night’s sleep. For weeks Duncan has reached out to bloggers, journalists and sector professionals around the world, sharing his ideas of what Spero News could be and asking each person individually if they’d like to contribute.
He’s riding herd over about 100 motivated people. While Robert sleeps, his partner Clint Gillespie who is 6 hours earlier in Texas, is putting in final codes and doing what an experienced newspaperman and internet tech does to get this labour of love online.

I like Robert’s graphic at his old blog. What a great way to launch Spero News. The graphic at Robert’s site the colour of what is going up tonight/tomorrow. If you go to the new site and the header is grey, Clint is still doing what a technican does to launch.

So what is Spero News?
It is a bi-weekly zine and community. The english content site is going up, the Spanish zine will be following soon.
It is attempting to provide premium content that encourages citizen participation.
Part of the goal is to work to provide constructive dialogue between media and readers, promoting correctly informed and discerning opinion that reflects Christian values.

A primary goal of Spero News is to teach citizens writing skills whereby they may take a more active role in policies that affect the social fabric, and an appreciation of the corresponding responsibility that comes with gained knowledge.

Spero News seeks to promote justice and solidarity according to an organic and correct vision of human development, by reporting events accurately and truthfully, analyzing situations and problems completely, and providing a forum for different opinions. Spero News believes that an authentically ethical approach to using the powerful communication media must be situated within the context of a mature exercise of freedom and responsibility, founded upon the supreme criteria of truth and justice.
