According to this story in the Edmonton Journal, Arizona’s civilian ‘minutemen’ have heard from northern state counterparts that they want to patrol the Canadian border.

An Arizona spokesperson says interest has come from Idaho, North Dakota and Minnesota.

Okay.
It’s the longest open border in the world.
The civilians wish to protect the border in the three states from terrorists and smugglers coming into the US.

I can’t disagree with what the guy from Arizona said. There was a documented case of a terrorist attempting to get into the US. Point is, the pros caught him.

If guys with guns want to sit at the northern border, as long as they stay on their side of it and don’t shoot anyone, why not? They are more in danger from West Nile virus or Lyme disease than terrorists.

I doubt some of the most northern towns would welcome them, but then again maybe they will. If they want to sit in bogs, swamps and the woods, that is their right to do so. If they chose to believe the US/Canadian border services are unstaffed incompetents, that is their right to do so.

Maybe the boredom will help reduce the level of fear that has them believing terrorists and smugglers are operating with impunity.

Don’t forget the black flies and mosquitoes! I wonder if they have any idea how desolate and rugged the border area is in those three states….

A very different type of environment from the southern US border for sure, and no less desolate.

Places that are relatively civilized do have a 200 foot clear space. The bugs don’t respect the border.:^)

If these would be ‘minutemen’ live in these three states, they may or may not have been to the border and know what the real dangers are.

o.k. I’m confused. I can see a need for the Minutemen Project on the southern border, because there are millions of illegal immigrants crossing the border.

    1. Canada is a richer country than the United States
    2. Canadians get Socialized medicine - Free Medical care for life
    3. Canadians can smoke pot legally :o)

Why would a Canadian be running across the border to the United States?? I don’t see it. Most Canadians are getting tired of all the paranoia and have opted not to bother to visit the U.S. anymore, not even on Vacation. (which hurts our economy)

Having the Minutemen on the Northern Border really makes me feel a whole lot safer from them Canadians.

Senator Hillary Clinton is calling for a security Czar to monitor the Canadian Border.

We haven’t even secured the southern border and we are worried about Canada, a country which resembles the United States more than Mexico economically.

    What’s wrong with this picture??

Not a bad idea, it’s fun to camp out in the woods, I’m a Canadian and would gladly do the same thing to protect our border from illegal draft dodgers coming from the USA. I think we have more of a problem with them coming up here than us going down there.

The Minutemen just want an excuse to fondle their “guns” Red necks…..

In 1977 the KKK stated they would question anyone who looks Hispanic on the southern border. I don’t see much of a difference from the vigilantes we now have on the border in 2005.

Hispanic groups in the USA (coconuts) that are also starting to get involved. What’s funny is in the United States if you “look” Hispanic, even if you were born in the USA, your still Mexican.

…and these same people (Hispanic Americans) are just considered Chicanos in Mexico.

Now matter how much these coconuts (brown on the outside, white on the inside) what to belong to the main stream, they will never fit in.
