   What I don’t understand is why the pundits seem so surprised that the Cardinals elected a Catholic for Pope.

   Benedict and Benediction are such great words.
   Bring on the puns.

   I wasn’t surprised the Cardinals elected a Catholic, I was surprised it took so long.;^)

   An inspired choice. I am elated. A real opportunity for the magisterium of the church to now include a broader coalition of voices in continuing the prudent legacy of John Paul II.

   Make no mistake Benedict the 16th, like his predecessor will always defend the true spirit of a faith relationship with Jesus Christ before defering to culturally inspired notions of individual rights and freedoms. Still, given what is described as a more consensual nature than John Paul II, orthodoxy may allow for greater participation among the body.
