Millions of flocks of chickens, ducks, geese have been culled in the past year, especially in Asia in an effort to stop the spread of H5N1 - the bird flu.

The World Health Organization has asked scientists and medical researchers to watch for transfer of the virus from birds to mammals.

And now a statement has come from an Indonesian agricultural scientist saying the virus has been found in pigs.

Scientists debate that evidence of H5N1 in pigs means the virus has potential to mutant into a more virulent strain people can pass to people. That is a hypothesis, scientists say ducks to not transmit H5N1 to each other and pigs do not pass it to other pigs.

One million people die each year from influenza.
H5N1 has killed 36 people in Vietnam, 12 in Thailand and four from Cambodia.

E-bola
Nine people have died in what doctors believe is another e-bola outbreak in the Congo. Neighbouring Angola has been the focus of medical effort. So far 284 people have died from Marburg virus - a hemmoraghic fever in the same deadly strain as e-bola.
Usually emergency medical response teams go into an area for about 8 weeks, helping local contain and stop outbreaks. They have been unsuccessful in Angola. The Congo has a bit better infrastructure and has seen several e-bola outbreaks since 1994.
