I mentioned Ted Haggard in a post below.
I have to be honest, I know very little about him. All I know is what I’ve read.
I know that he is the head of The National Association of Evangelicals in the US.
That is a powerful position.
I know from where I sit, his theology is dodgy to me.
He is powerful enough to draw the attention of three networks.
According to The Revealer, Haggard sent a memo out to his congregation, suggesting how to act when the main stream media shows up to church.
Truthfully, he starts by using basic suggestions any media advisor would give.
Don’t fidget. Look the person in the eye and speak plainly.
Good advice, I’ve given it to others many times.
It’s the way he says it though, like reporters are aliens that just won’t get it. He is addressing a sub-culture - but hello here, how sub is this church? If I were Tom Brokaw or Barbra Walter’s producers, I’d latch onto this memo with a straight face. You really couldn’t make this stuff up.
…don’t be spooky or weird. Don’t switch into a glassy-eyed heavenly mode…
Don’t talk about the devil, demons, voices speaking to you, God giving you supernatural revelations, etc. Instead, tell your personal story in common sense language (I was a drunk but God changed me and now I’m sober, I’m grateful, etc.).
If a camera is on you during a worship service, worship; don’t dance, jump, etc. Secular people watching TV are touched with authentic worship, but jumping and dancing in church looks too bizarre for most to relate to
Well. Hello. Yes. It does. Non-Prophet put the full email up in a post. Now there are rumours it isn’t real. Ahem.
An associate pastor popped over to the blog to clarify.
We believe the media is a friend and great asset to the church, and we want to work together well.
In the email, there is a schedule reminder with the following:
Can’t wait to hear about your meeting with the Prime Minister! I’m sure we now have a new plan for world peace, so thanks in advance. ;o)
The assistant is referring to Ariel Sharon. Like I said, a powerful position.

“I have to be honest, I know very little about him.”
I could tell. It’s Haggard, not Haggart.
I read one of his books and gleaned some great stuff but had to leave a lot behind too.
Hey Rodney - lol. Thanks. Fixed.
