Blog Day!

I started blogging three years ago today. Imagine. It’s my Blog Day!

I got a terrific present, an email from a friend, mentor and brother.

I never would have attempted this blogging hobby if it hadn’t been for a guy in Australia – Martin Roth. I think our meeting up three years ago was a divine appointment.

I have friends all over the world now.
Imagine.
People I’d be glad to have come and sit on my front porch if I had one.:^)

Pop in and say hi at this front porch today if you’d like. And would you do something else for me?
Would you pray for Martin and his family as they deal with illness?
Oh, and then, would you do one more thing?
Pop over to a blog of someone who has meant something to you and let them know you appreciate them?

What a great adventure blogging is. Three years. Imagine.
Whooo hooo! It’s my Blog Day! Blog on!

Life is not a journey to the grave with intentions of arriving safely in a pretty well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming … WOW! What a ride!

    Many happy returns!

I’m not sure that this blogging thing is a good idea any more. Shall we give it another 3 years and then think about it again? ;o)

  2. Mark says:

Hey Bene, congratulations! You were one of my very first blog friends. Good to see you’re still going strong!

  3. MMM says:

Glad you’re out there. From the Desert of the Real, you’re more than welcome to stop by and sit by the pool, enjoy the sunset…..

Oh, yeah, and that quote about the ride? Uh huh. Uh huh. You bet. :) And then, to leave it and go with Him to bigger and better things. Where we’re never used up, ever ever.

    What a ride, indeed. :)

  4. Jared says:

    Happy Blogday, Bene!

I know we haven’t seen eye to eye on a few things, but I am grateful that at least, and even in those few things, we have been able to be talk heart to heart. The god-blogosphere is deeply indebted to you and the spirit of gentleness you bring to this site and those it touches. Thank God for the blessing of you. The Thinklings are honored to consider you a friend.

    Blog on!

  5. Happy Blogday, Bene. You’re a great addition to the blogosphere, which would be more of a big black hole without you. :)

    Andrew

  13. Martin Roth says:

    Hi Bene,

Happy blogday, and thank you for your kind thoughts. Who knew that the email from you that dropped into my inbox around midnight, three years ago, just as I was switching off my computer, would lead to this? Yes, I too believe it was a divine appointment. Bloggers come and go (he says, looking into the mirror) but I think you’re going to go on and on. Congratulations, best wishes from wintry Melbourne, and have a great and blessed day.

    Martin

  14. Astralis says:

Congratulations!! What a wonderful day it is. I also celebrated a three-year forum-day so I know how proud you must be. =)

Congrats! You are really provided a great service to your readers… you are essentially my “godparent” when it comes to blogging. I feel very fortunate that you were among the very first bloggers that I had contact with. I don’t know what other lines of work you might pursue, but I know that this is definitely a calling for you. You are a wonderful blogger!

  16. Jan says:

    Happy blogday, Bene,

I too am grateful for your friendship and your blog. Here’s an invitation to come and sit on my back deck for a while and enjoy the flowers and some coffee or whatever.

As Martin says, it’s wintry over here now, or it’s starting to become like what passes for winter here.

    You’d probably find it mild.
    Shalom,
    Jan

Happy blog day a few days late! If I had a porch you could come sit on it too.
Have you heard anything about a rubella epidemic in Ontario? I am getting bits and pieces but haven’t been able to get the big pic from here in the USA.

  20. Bene Diction says:

Yes, there has been a measles outbreak. I’ll look up some links for you.

  27. Joel Thomas says:

I hope this is a blog where I will continue to be welcomed! ;-) First Catez deletes my comments and sends me a “banning” e-mail. Then RazorsKiss, which I read but have never tried to post to, includes in an e-mail reply that I’m both a “heretic” and not welcome as a commenter at RK, either.

No matter how many conservative (right-wing?) bloggers send blasts my way, I’m still attending the GodBlog convention at Biola. I’ll be the one wearing the “If it isn’t close, Hugh Hewitt can’t cheat” button mocking his implication that all Democrats are election stealers.

  28. Bene Diction says:

Joel: You will always be welcome and appreciated at this blog.

I certainly have had angry people disagree with me, but I have never blocked anyone. I can’t imagine calling someone a heretic. Disagreeing with someone isn’t going to destroy my relationship with God, any more than their labelling of me is. I think iron sharpens iron and disagreement is an opportunity to show grace, not to feel threatened.

I am sorry to hear RazorKiss has behaved this way, I believed he was able to handle differences of opinion from fellow believers and I respected him in that conclusion.

I can’t imagine what Catez’s fear and anger is; it appears you are seen as a troll harrassing a christian woman. It appears disagreement is seen as argument and harrassment. Being a woman online must be difficult. Having seen her aggregator policy, perhaps males commenters not on the same page is threatening.

I’m sorry Joel, this has had to hurt. I’ve never seen you arrogant, prideful, pushy or disrespectful to any bloggers.
I’ve never seen you ‘troll’, and your arguments or difference of opinion in some difficult places have been respectful.

Hmmm. I am genuinely disappointed in RazorKiss. I hope he’ll attempt to discuss things with you.

BDBO will always be a place you are free to speak. (and disagree;^)

  29. Joel Thomas says:

    Bene,

I actually like Catez’ blog and will continue to read it. She is an excellent writer and has some very thoughtful posts. I think the misunderstanding really goes back to our differences on the Terri Schiavo matter.

I also read the RazorsKiss blog regularly and enjoy doing so. His theology isn’t mine, but I’ve always liked being challenged.

  30. Catez says:

Congratulations on 3 years of blogging Bene. I expect I’ve read your blog more than you’ve read mine over the last year. I like the interesting bits’n'pices on life in Canada – since I am way down near the bottom of the world myself.

No offence intended here, but you are off the mark re: the aggregator and my enjoyment of the blogging interaction I have with men and women online. I enjoy a lot of different people’s input – so there’s definitely no gender war. (Smile). The aggregator has turned out to be a marvellous way of Christian women bloggers finding readers and making connections, and I love the international diversity it has too.
So no – I can assure you plenty of guys comment on the same page as I do. Anyway – I don’t intend to get too involved on all that.

Three years is a substantial time to write regularly and it must be quite awesome to look back on it. I’m coming up to two years of blogging myself and it has been amazing. Like you I’ve made lots of friends all over the world.
    God bless you
    Catez
