American technology companies are co-operating with the Chinese government, censoring certain words and ideas in accordance with Chinese rules.
Microsoft is the latest blog platform to join Yahoo, Google and other companies wishing to do business in China,
Chinese bloggers are required to register with the government within 30 days.
The government uses a technology called Night Crawler to patrol blogs. Unregistered blogs are shut down.

When I was in China, I couldn’t read my own Blogspot blog - my friends at home could, but if I wanted to read comments, check formatting, etc., I had to do it through my template preview.
Mine is apparently blocked in China.
The maybe it’s words like democracy and human rights, or the fact I write about the Chinese church from time to time.
Hopefully it’s a matter of time before someone invensts software that will circumvent Night Crawler.
Our friends who were working in Shanghai had the same problem. Brad couldn’t see his own blog while he was there, and most times couldn’t read mine either.
Bene, I started reading your blog when I was in China. Mind you, that was in 2003/04 - I’ve been home for just over a year now. I agree with your hopes that the patroling can be circumvented.
