I haven’t been at the computer much lately. I haven’t been doing much of anything lately.

I’m a Canuck through and through. When temps get above 70F I start to slow down. It’s been a hot June. While we’ve been around the mean average temperature, the humidex has been wicked.

With the early heat wave in Canada, I’ve been none functional. When a town north of us becomes the hottest spot in Canada you have to wonder how urbanites south even cope. The hottest place I’ve even been was South Carolina in a heat wave. I never want to get that sick again. My editor and I crawled into the car and headed for the border. By the time we reached Pennsylannia the temperature had dropped nearly 60 degrees and all I could do was keep pointing toward home. I know most people think -20 is cold. But it is what I am used to and I cope.

A few weeks ago my landlord decided to install air, but not just a unit, the 2nd highest rated unit for an place this size. The company installs them in businesses, most home owners don’t go there.

It didn’t happen, because there weren’t any. It had to be shipped up.
Yesterday, five guys spent 13 hours, and left without getting the compressor working. The day before the landlord had buckled and vomited with heat exhaustion and realized getting the air conditioning in wasn’t a luxury.

They got it working about 1/2 hour ago and we are already feeling the change. No more trips to the grocery store to stand in front of the freezer section. No more cold showers, no more heat rashes, headaches, nausea and sore throats or choking down food because you have to eat. No more fighting irritability from sleep deprivation. The thermostat was reading 87F this morning. It’s already creeping down and I may start feeling human again.:^)

Central heating isn’t optional in this climate. I don’t know what it says about the environment or us when central air isn’t frivilous.

I’m just grateful I have a well reseached and stubborn landlord.

Central AC is an absolute necessity here in Southern Louisiana, but I tell you, it can get hot in Canada. I’ve had heat exhaustion/sickness here, and back home. I honestly don’t know how people cope outside in this weather, at all. The humidity has been ridiculously high with ridiculously high temperatures, and I don’t go outside unless I absolutely have to.

Glad to hear you aren’t sweating it anymore!
