I hadn’t planned to catch any of Live 8 today.
I walked into a friends house this evening and they had it on. I was treated to some reggae before I headed out to a point on the lake to wach the sun set.
When I came home I flipped on the news in time to catch Andre Bocelli with a full orchestra behind him singing “The Prayer.”
As awesome as his voice is, there was something wrong, even with a haunting violin answering him.
“The Prayer” isn’t a solo. Whether it’s Charlotte Church and Josh Groban or Celine Dion and Andre Bocelli, “The Prayer” is meant to be responsive. The composer wrote it for two voices.
Just like prayer.
It is not just about our petition and praise and us.
It’s about two, the Creator of the universe joining with us.
Mike at connexions was in Edinburgh today.
Bob Smietena was at home in the US.
Both were thinking about poverty, wealth, hunger, petition and what Live 8 is trying to be about.

I saw a little of it, while going through channels yesterday evening. It would have been nice to have watched more of it, though.
I know that your weblog has been around for awhile; I just came to this front page, after going to one of your past entries, via this post by Lee Anne,

which I went to in regards to the annual Claybourn-style birthday blog entry - which I’m about to finally publish at my blog (despite my birthday being one week ago).
I know that we’ve been in the same circles within the Blogosphere, for over two years now… I don’t know if I’ve ever commented at your weblog in the past, though. I’m glad that - unlike an unfortunate number of other bloggers - you have continued blogging, at nearly the same site as before (though it redirects, now that ‘Hour Eleven’ has unfortunately closed down). I like it when things don’t change.
Keep up the good work with blogging.
Oh, yeah. Two voices. They rock together.

Thanks Aakash, belated blog day to you.:^)
Bene, you’re so right about “The Prayer.” I can’t imagine it being sung as a solo.
I like both the Bocelli/Dion version and the Groban/Church version almost equally well. However, I was surprised a couple of years ago to be blown away by a version sung live by Donnie McClurkin and Yolanda Adams, both primarily known as black gospel singers. Yes, their version is different, but both are wonderfully powerful singers, and they pretty much brought down the house with that song (it was at the Gospel Music Association Dove Awards).
Wonderful song. And I love Andrea Bocelli.
