The tube (subway system) will remain closed until Friday. Most city buses and trains are running with restrictions.

The Heathrow airport is open, with delays.

A website has been found with a statement on it. The unknown group calls itself: Secret Organisation Group of al-Qaeda [literally the base] of Jihad Organisation in Europe.

We have repeatedly warned the British Government and people. We have fulfilled our promise and carried out our blessed military raid in Britain after our mujahideen exerted strenuous efforts over a long period of time to ensure the success of the raid.

We continue to warn the governments of Denmark and Italy and all the Crusader governments that they will be punished in the same way if they do not withdraw their troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. He who warns is excused.

British Muslims have been swift to condemn the bombings.
The Muslim Council of Britain and The Muslim Association of Britain have spoken out strongly condemning the attacks.
The Anglican Bishop of Stepney, Chief Rabbi Sir Jonathan Sacks, and the Sikh Foundation in East London have also spoken.

Bishop Oliver said “When something like this happens people are at first afraid, and then people get angry.

“There’s a great deal of speculation in this atmosphere. We are determined that whatever the reaction it is one that unites the different faith communities.”

London has experienced 14 attacks since the 1970’s - the IRA set off 36 bombs in the city in 1973. The last known attempt in the London area was in 2000 when members of the IRA fired rocket propelled grenades at MI6 headquarters.

Update: The internet is understandably busy, people are logging on looking for information - especially blogs. Technorati has been swamped. I’ve been unable to log in at connexions to provide blogs or information to Richard’s readers.
Richard oversees a number of Methodist churches and has family and friends in London. Mike, Richard and Wood have checked in briefly.

helen-louise has a post up: Dear worried Americans (and Canadians)

I think helen louis is an excellent voice for Londoners.
