When you are attacked, criticized and accused, it helps to develop a healthy sense of humour.
Jeri, of Blog on the Lilypad has done remarkable work exposing flaws, corruption, false belief, behavior and the thinking of Independent Fundamentalist Baptists, at cost to herself, her health and safety.
Her courage has helped many in this unique cultish movement begin to find their way out and has helped those who have been out for awhile carry on their worK of helping others.
The overt attacks on Jeri are sick, abusive and have bordered on the criminal.
She has needed good thinking skills, a solid sense of herself, grounding the bible, logical writing skills, and a strong balance in her personal life. Hers is not a task for the faint hearted.
The covert attacks have been sneaky, obsessive, pr0nographic, utterly hateful and personally threatening. As with many groups the net exposes the leaderships hold on power and it’s often frightening misuse of it. They attack those that speak up. They whine, play the martyr, accuse, assume, spiritualize, and do anything except address their own failings, mistakes, sins, secrets and drunkness for power.
Twice now, disgruntled evangelicals or fundamentalists have said that I have an agenda. I wish that somebody would tell me what they mean. They never declare what my agenda is; but they have asserted that I have one.
Regular readers of this blog know that Fundamentalists routinely answer well-founded criticism with outright accusation. I’ve been accused of being a lesbian, a witch, and an atheist. Most recently, Evangelist Tim Lee has asserted that I am not saved. I’m so accustomed to Fundamentalist rant that I don’t notice it any more. But, perhaps because it is so blatantly undefined, this new twist on the game of “discredit the opponent” has surprised me
Jeri uses humour in her post to ‘fess up to her past ‘transgressions and agendas’ before she gets down to the real issue.
But the premises on which I base my writing and observations are not an agenda, except an agenda to get people to think for themselves in light of understanding. Every stream flows downhill and can cause great destruction. Altering that flow requires thought, decision, and intelligence, and anybody capable of thought, decision, and intelligence is responsible not to flow downhill with the stream.
Thank you Jeri. The above touches close to home for me from experiences in the past week and a half, and I wouldn’t have imagined it would. I’ve learned from what you say and I thank you for your gift.
The chuckles are good fun.:^)
