Emergency services in London England have closed all the tube stations in the city. All levels of emergency personnel have responded, to reported incidents in the London underground. There are rumours there are no injuries and London police are not treating this as a major incident.

Sky News is reporting a minor explosion in the London underground. and a series of incidents have been reported near Warren Street, Oval and Shepherd’s Bush stations. Sky News reported initially people were asked to get off their cell phones in the immediate areas in case radio signals set off unknown bombs.

Sky is saying is that the stations have been evacuated. So far, all news media outlets have received on this two week anniversary of the bombings is one witness has said he saw a man with a knapsack, who set off a small explosion. There are also mixed reports of gunshots in one of the stations where emergency personal are. Police are saying the gunshot sounds may be detonators. Eye witnesses saw and smelled smoke coming from a subway car at the Warren Station.

Reuters is reporting a nail bomb at the Warren street station (rumours are it might have been a suicide attempt) and there are reports of an incident on an East london bus. Reports came in at 12:35 to Oval station then, a call to the next station at 12:38 and the next one at 12:45.

The bus driver on Hackney and Columbia road says the windows on the upper deck of the bus were blown out.

The BBC is saying that dummy explosions using denonators only, are what sparked the evacuation of the stations and the closure of the underground today.

These events happened as a memorial service was taking place for first responders at Kings Cross.

A British Transportation Police officer says one person was injured at the Warren Street station. Armed police have entered the College University Hospital and cordoned it off. Many of the people injured two weeks ago are being treated there.

2:31 pm (GMT) No trains are trapped in tunnels.
The BBC is reporting dummy bombs are being found. Eye witness reports say the man with the knapsack ran off.

2:39 pm (GMT) The London Police chief Ian Blair has made a brief statement saying casuality figures are very low and that there were four attempted explosions, smaller than two weeks ago.
Police are asking people to stay put and go about business as usual.

2:49 (GMT) Hospitals are not on high alert, some subway lines are open, Tony Blair will be making a statement after he has been debriefed.

3:11 (GMT) Police are searching for a man at the London University College Hospital about 6′ tall, a black or Asian male with holes in his blue shirt with wires protruding from it which could indicate he had been or was wired with a bomb.

3:34 (GMT) London Metro Police website say there was one person injured. Police are asking the public for any pictures they may have taken. A man was arrested outside 10 Downing Street, there is no reason why as yet or it the arrest is connected to the underground. Another arrest has been made around 4 pm, but again there has been no information released by police.

3:42 (GMT) Tony Blair came out of a security meeting and said that it was important Londoners react calmly and continue with their lives.

There is a lot of rumour and speculation, a great many facts are not yet available. For the most part Sky and the BBC and most wire services showed restraint, the CBC and CTV ran British TV and had to fill a bit of time with talkiing heads doing some speculating here in Canada.

4:36 (GMT) Scotland Yard has said that the explosions were almost simultaneous. There were small bombs that did not go off on the Warren Street platform, the bus and Shepard’s Cross.

4:56 (GMT) More armed police and a terrorist squad have entered the University College Hospital.

5:04 (GMT) Police found a back pack on the top of the double decker bus that they are examining. There are unofficial reports that an arrest has been made at the University College Hospital.

Personal Note: I trust I don’t offend my Australian friends. Tony Blair was meeting with Prime Minister John Howard and held the joint conference with him. Howard’s strong point isn’t extemporaneous speech. To say he prattles and is repetitive is what I’d call reasonable observation, given how clearly Blair spoke.

While events in London captured media attention, 15 people died in two suicide bombings targeting an Iraq Police recruiting centre and a check point. Two Algerian diplomats were kidnapped. An Egyptian envoy was killed about a month ago, recently Pakistani and Bahraini diplomats were targeted by gunmen.

As ever, you’re first “on the scene” with news. Thanks for keeping us aware of what’s going on around the world, and so quickly too!

No offence taken re Mr Howard. He’s says a lot, yet says nothing. Can’t stand him myself.

    Lord, have mercy.
