Cerulean Sanctum (new to me) has a post up asking is the Christian Blogosphere has Lost it’s Collective Mind.

Parts of it do sometimes.
I’m not sure, but I think he is referring to something about a US author named Rick Warren and an interview with a guy who defends him at Tim Challies.

It is a small corner of the god-blogosphere, mostly ministers and theologial types that by nature will discuss argue or defend a point down to the last period.

Folks, a name and a postage stamp-sized pic on the Web is not a person. You don’t know me and I really don’t know you, either. It’s easy to tear out someone’s heart on the Web through our pseudo-anonymity. It is far harder to tear out someone’s heart in person. But when we get right down to it, the Lord would not have us savage each other on the Web anymore than He would condone us savaging each other in person.

Can we all just take a deep breath and hold it for a few seconds? Can we count to ten before we post the latest flame bait or character assassination. I’m tired of the hunt for heretics. Cerulean Sanctum gets more combined hits from people looking for heretics than any other kind of Google search. That’s really sad.

Is this all we are about? I’ve blogged many times about this, but it’s getting stupid now and I’m questioning why we Christians even blog if this is all we can do.

If the picture that some of us are presenting to the world at large looks like a bunch of fussbudget, life-haters on a perpetual witch hunt, well let me tell you we’re excelling at that.

Can we stop for a while? Please? I’m pleading now. Let’s stop slaying each other remotely via words. Just last week I proposed that we spend a month in prayer for anyone we disagree with before we write them up on our blogs as “Enemies of Christ.”

It’s a good plea and likely to be heard in the circles that are currently debating.
God-bloggers seem to have semi-collective spats about once a year or so. It’ll always be something - a writer, a war, the world.

I’d like to suggest that some of the battling bloggers not only take time to breath, but look for blogs that don’t care who Rick Warren is.
They exist, and if you are going to take that breath it might as well be a deep and fresh one.
What about move past god-blogs sometimes. They may well be your passion (they can be mine) but try reading other genres. I read a lot of none faith blogs, get involved with game sites, Canadian political blogs, international blogs that discuss all kinds of things, med-blogs and news.
Helps keep perspective.

Thanks for linking to my blog, Cerulean Sanctum. Welcome!

I think it is about tone. We can disagree. It’s the way that disagreement plays out before the lost that troubles me. Sure, no one may be reading our God blogs outside of other God bloggers, but it still doesn’t excuse us to act like three-year olds.

    Blessings!

I lIke what you had to say.
Most of my readers aren’t god-bloggers.

And I’m sorry to say I wouldn’t direct many of my friends that are unsure about God to many God-blogs.

You are correct, we don’t need to be acting like three year olds. I think most of it is needing to be right or defend a viewpoint or person at the cost of others.
    Blog on!
