SoMA Review has an article on the most famous Christian of the 20th century.

Do you know who that was?
Take a guess before you head over.

And while you are over at SoMA, you might want to to take the idolatry quiz.

The theologian Paul Tillich said we commit idolatry whenever we ascribe infinite significance to anything finite. Because there’s nothing infinite but God, it’s easy to do, especially for religious people who often mistake their beliefs, traditions, rituals, and sacred texts with the reality (note: lowercase r) to which they’re supposed to point.

Apparently CNN’s Larry King had five mega-church ministers on his show recently. Religious leaders as the new stars and mega-celebrities. No doubt some church goers will have their noses out of joint because their lead minister wasn’t selected. Be patient. With all the air time to fill, no doubt someone will get around to them eventually.

Spero News takes a look at an ongoing mega-church study being conducted by Hartford Seminary’s Hartford Institute for Religion Research. The mega surprise?
There are a lot more in the US than previously thought.

Canada must have mega-churches and we probably have religious celebrities.
Is it to my shame I wouldn’t know who they are?
I don’t think so. Fame in and of itself can be sought, thrust upon someone or sneak up on a person.
Fame: a) the state or quality of being widely honored and acclaimed
b) favorable public reputation
Celebrity: a) a celebrity is a person who is widely recognized in a society
b) A person of distinction or renown

Quote from Ian’s Messy Desk

There are only 2 reasons everyone is not a christian:
1) They do not know a Christian or…
2) They do. — Author Unknown

    I had guessed Billy Graham!

For another perspective, here’s an article from the Straight Dope:

    I guessed wrong too.:^)

Thanks for the Straight Dope link Richard.
How many political figures and groups currently in the world use ‘christian’ for their gods, ideologies and idolatry? I can’t count them, can you?

Hm, I don’t think James was referring to the creation of widows and orphans when he said that true and undefiled religion (a.k.a. true and undefiled Chirstianity) was the care of such.

It’s a little odd for that article to claim Hitler as the “most famous Christian” and then ask whether he even considered himself to be a Christian.

If Hitler didn’t consider himself to be a Christian, why should we?

    In hindsight, easy question.

Hitler used what he wanted to use. I’ve never met a meglomaniac, let alone a functioning one.
    Some functioning sociopaths, yes.:^)

Most of the German people saw him as a Christian because it was in his best interests for them to believe that. It made it easier to follow him.
I think in hindsight infamous is easier to swallow for some than famous.

Not sure what you’re getting at!!! However your “Quote” re Christians is probably sad but true…that’s why Jesus told us to examine that “fruit” of a man or woman, what they produce in their real lives, rather than what they purport themselves to be. Hitler’s fruit was pretty clearly death and destruction, which is Satan’s fruit not God’s. They’re alot of labels out there…check out the genuine product inside to be certain that You know what’s real and what isn’t….all wisdom comes from God’s word.
    Gos Bless
