Queen Elizabeth II is not saying a word about any controversy being stirred up about the next Governor-General Michelle Jean and her husband Jean-Daniel Lafond.

I didn’t know you could email Buckingham Palace.

A Palace spokesperson says Her Majesty relies on the word of the Prime Minister.

An Ottawa Member of Parliament Pierre Poilievre has an email addy on his website and says his site has received 5 thousand hits.

That is not very many hits.
It is his job to create buzz an an opposition member, but it’s the end of August.
Most people are trying to get a vacation in, get kids ready for school and enjoy the last days of summer.

He said local calls and e-mails have been running against Jean. Of 56 e-mails received by his office, 44 were displeased with Jean’s appointment and 12 supported it.

Andrew Coyne made a case for caring about this appointment at his blog this past week.

Michelle Jean’s lack of qualifications aren’t a deep concern to many of us. It isn’t like Rideau Hall doesn’t have qualified staff.

    Hi, Bene.

I’ve been keeping up with the “controversy” while holidaying out in Vancouver.

I haven’t blogged about it because, for me, its a non-starter. Why? Well… it goes something like this…

When I was a teen-ager, I was a card-carrying member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada *gasp*. When I was in University, my leanings became much more… well… Marxist/Leninist-ish *double gasp*.

    Now, I’m pretty much NDP.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that - often - one’s political views change as the world (and one’s life) moves on.

I believe Mme. Jean when she says that she is supportive of Canada, and was not affiliated with any separatist party.

But, even if she was - ten or fifteen years ago - that doesn’t mean she is now.

    Thanks for letting me mumble!

Blessings and peace - Richard B.
