I missed this.
Apparently CTV news - the CTV Newsnet 24/7 english channel reported that Lucien Bouchard was dead today.
The 66 year old politican who has been a key player in Quebec separatism/nationalism is very much alive.
CTV says it got the information from RDI - the CBC French News Channel.
RDI was running a 10th anniversary report on the Quebec referendum which included a profile of Bouchard - and included his near fatal battle with necrotizing fasciitis in December of 1994, which led to losing his leg. The referendum was in 1995.
Cutting into regular coverage with a Breaking News graphic, CTV’s 24-hour news network credited a Radio-Canada report and said Bouchard had died at the age of 66. Calling it dramatic news, political expert Mike Duffy began eulogizing Bouchard, saying he had a “profound impact on Canadian history” before stopping.
Duffy and CTV Newsnet anchor Kate Wheeler then said they were “happy to report Lucien Bouchard is alive and well.” “I don’t know why Radio-Canada has been reporting that but indeed, now we’re glad to report he’s still alive,” Wheeler said on the air.
If CTV Newsnet reporters wish to eulogize a politican, Gary Robichaud, former leader of the NDP in PEI died today.
42 year old Robichaud stepped down as party leader in June because of inoperable lung cancer.
